Is there a perfect career path for a Project Planning Engineer? Young Engineer: According to me the best career path for a Planning Engineer is this. a) When you are young, work with professionals, expand your network within the industry you are working; and then. b) Establish your own business in this industry, so you don't have to work for someone. That's the safest way establishing your own company, since you are not starting from scratch. What is your view on this? Me : I appreciate your thought process, however I believe there is no best or safest career path out there. Whatever path you choose, has challenges, setbacks and failures. At a particular point of time, we may think that this or that is the best approach, As we grow and gain experience in the industry, we might get new ideas and the old ones may look irrelevant, and that is perfectly ok. My suggestion is that when you are working in the industry for whatever time, you need to be hungry and curious, do not set rules for spending particular years in a profile. You may feel you are ready in 5 years, then go for the business, if you face setbacks, go back to the job, learn and come back again and try. Young Engineer : You're absolutely right, there's no perfect way. It could be only the one where I feel passionate about. Can you give an example of a business opportunity that I explore to start my business with the experience of a project planning engineer? Me : I often observe a gap between Project Management processes and Contracting & Legal procedures, you may explore this area if you like. Young Engineer : Thank you What do you think, Is there is a perfect career path? Do share your career journey. And youngsters, please share the career path you would like to choose? #projectplanning #projectcontrols

4moIn my opinion I whichever industry you are working on , you have to understand the job functions involved and you must the way they work ,have coordinate in inter disciplines . And times involved in their various activities and in the overall project how they fit in. Involve yourself in schedule planning meetings from design construction and commissioning understanding what timelines have been considered in design procurement inspection and commissioning to generate primavera . These will help in actual jobs you handle in future. A planning engineer has to be aware of what is happening to various schedule activities , their start and end dates. A planning engineer works in close coordination with project manager but has to interact with all stake holders who contribute to various activities. Keep your eyes and ears open during progress meetings. All this will help in becoming a good planning engineer.
