In many government schools, regional language education is typically offered for free, while English medium education often comes with a cost. It's a valid point to question the fairness of charging for English medium education while offering regional language education for free in government schools. This situation can indeed raise concerns about equal access to educational opportunities for all students. While the reasons behind this pricing structure may have some rationale, it's crucial for educational policymakers to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder students from accessing quality education in the language of their choice. Striking a balance between promoting regional languages and providing opportunities for English education without creating financial barriers is essential for fostering an inclusive and equitable education system. Advocating for policies that support both regional language education and English proficiency without disadvantaging any group of students is key to ensuring fairness and equal opportunities in education. It's essential to strike a balance between promoting regional languages and providing access to English education to equip students with the skills needed in a globalized world. #Education #LanguageDiversity #GovernmentSchools #EducationEquality #InclusiveEducation #Fairness

It’s interesting to see that the Parent Survey from the National Consortium for Languages Education has found that most parents in England support mandatory foreign language classes in secondary schools. The survey also found: • 70% of parents believe their child should have more access to international opportunities through their school. • 69% of parents say their child understands the benefits of learning a second language. • 49% of parents regret never learning a language other than English. • Most parents (64%) would encourage their child to learn Spanish. The Importance of Early Language Education Early language education is essential for children growing up in bilingual environments. The level of development and establishment of the native language, which forms the foundation of thinking, significantly influences the development of children's English skills. Understanding the sequence and timing of language education is crucial for children to smoothly acquire two languages.

How can we address Cultural Diversity in English Language Teaching as English language teachers? I believe as English teachers we play a pivotal role in addressing cultural diversity in English language education by intentionally integrating diverse perspectives, experiences, and voices into our teaching practices. We can achieve this by selecting literature, texts, and materials that reflect a wide range of cultural backgrounds and experiences, allowing students to see themselves represented in the curriculum. Additionally, we can also incorporate activities and discussions that encourage students to share their own cultural experiences and perspectives, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. I personally feel this develops deeper understanding, and is a good way to make each student feel included, while recognising their unique individuality. By actively addressing cultural diversity in English language education, we will not only create more inclusive and engaging learning environments but also empower students to navigate and thrive in our increasingly interconnected world! #englishteacher #culturaldiversity #inclusion

One simple click writes the letter. Do we really REALLY want to block kids from learning English? Do we REALLY want a weaker military? Do we REALLY want ANY person educating children to lose professional skills? Do we REALLY not have 30 seconds to speak up for the future? The recent announcement from the #MinistryofEducationEthiopia regarding the prohibition of learning English as a subject and using it as a medium of instruction at pre-primary school for other subjects is concerning. While it's crucial for children to learn academic content in their native languages, it's undeniable that proficiency in English is essential for global competence. This decision could hinder our children's ability to compete effectively on the global stage. We urge the Ministry to reconsider this policy before its implementation. It's vital that our education system equips our children with the language skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly competitive world. #Education #LanguageLearning #GlobalCompetence #EthiopiaMinistryofEducation

International European Language Day 2024 highlights an urgent issue in the UK—our shortage of MFL teachers. With over 7,000 languages spoken globally, the importance of Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teachers cannot be overstated. Our education system is heavily impacted by the lack of these educators, causing students to miss out on the cognitive, cultural, and economic benefits of being multilingual. If you're fluent in another language, consider making a difference by becoming an MFL teacher. You might be surprised at how seamless the switch to teaching can be. Pursuing qualifications like a PGCE while continuing your current role may even qualify you for financial assistance from the Government. Very proud of our students! Winnie Teng, along with four other students, submitted a proposal to TCA's China Global English Education Assembly (aka "the TESOL Assembly") to be held in Zhuhai, China on July 25-28 and was accepted. On TCA's home page (https://lnkd.in/gSjANFVq), Winnie's workshop, along with those of four other teachers, was highlighted as a featured presentation at the conference! Go! Go! Winnie! The following are the presentations our students will be giving at the conference, listed in the alphabetical order of their last names: 1) Gloria Gao, "Second Language Motivation of Chinese College Students Home and Abroad" 2) Elodie Lyu, "Beliefs about Grammar Teaching in Bilingual Contexts: Native vs. Chinese EFL Teachers" 3) Winnie Teng, "Empowering Junior High Students: Enhancing English Speaking Skills through Drama" 4) Zheng Wu, "Five Themes in CLT Research in Global Settings: Implications for Global EFL" 5) Yizhou Zhi, "Harmonizing Language Learning: Exploring the Impact of Music on Cognitive Development, Motivation, and Cultural Connectivity" 👍 🙌 👏
