The issue for India is not "To Grow or Not to Grow ?" but HOW to Grow ? I grew up in India in 70s and 80s, under the anemic "Hindu growth rate". Even as a kid, I was fully conscious (more than others) of India's huge potential and how it was being stifled by feudal policies. I resented it. As a teenager, I wanted to make Bharat Great Again. So, today, I am all in favor of India's rapid economic growth, key to uplift millions out of poverty and provide "enough" material well-being to all Indian citizens. BUT... Indian policy-makers and businesses should focus on increasing *quantitively* the economic growth – as measured by GDP – as well as improving the *quality* of growth so it's socially inclusive and ecologically sound. As I explain in my new book The Frugal Economy, India can inspire the world by showing a "frugal way to grow" that maximizes human and social well-being within planetary boundaries: https://lnkd.in/eP5Bk7pv .
