We are spending billions more to provide top cover for Israel to occupy and attack Gaza, Lebanon, Syria....Yemen. The Secretary has directed that the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group (CSG) remain in the USCENTCOM theater and that the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group / Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) will continue to operate in the Eastern Mediterranean. This afloat posture is complemented by DoD’s elevated fighter and attack squadron presence, including F-22, F-15E, F-16, and A-10 aircraft, and we will further reinforce our defensive air-support capabilities in the coming days. The right answer would be implement UNSC 242...a Palestinian Statehood and de-occupation of Lebanon and Syrian by Israel. https://lnkd.in/dYkTYEaC

If Malaysia is ever invaded, will Singapore provide military aid and help fight off the enemy too? Malaysia is part of the Five Powers Defence Arrangements (FPDA). The other signatories are: UK, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore Under FPDA, in the event of hostilities against Singapore or Malaysia, the signatories are obligated to consulting each other "immediately" in the event or threat of an armed attack on any of the FDPA members for the purpose of deciding what measures should be taken jointly or separately in response. To be fair, this is not a formal iron clad security guarantee. However to this day: Australia maintains air force squadron and units in Butterworth, Penang, Malaysia FPDA was signed in 1971 when UK withdrew forces East of Suez. Australia and New Zealand stepped forward to fill in the security vacuum. In the early years Australia maintained infantry battalions in Singapore. These were withdrawn in 1974. New Zealand maintained an infantry battalion until 1989. FPDA is increasingly two-tiered. Armed forces such as UK, Australia and Singapore are relatively modern and well equipped. In contrast Malaysia and New Zealand have fallen behind. Malaysia has been mired in scandals with naval ships looking unlikely to be delivered (if at all). This was after spending over 1B! Malaysian arms acquisitions is a mishmash of Russian, US and European hardware. Back to the original question. It is the view of this author (https://lnkd.in/guZd-BQD) that Singapore will assist Malaysia in the event of a foreign invasion. Reasons: Lack of strategic depth - Singapore is a small nation. It is so small that modern artillery pieces cannot be fired in Singapore. This is why overseas training areas such as Thailand and New Zealand are invaluable. In effect, any successful defence of Singapore involves forward deployment to create strategic depth. Otherwise, an invading force will station ships, artillery, aircraft outside Singapore and rain down ordnance Water/ food - Although Singapore is largely independent in terms of water, it is still cheaper to import water. Singapore imports food from Malaysia. In this context, it makes sense to help Malaysia in terms of defence Cultural/ historical ties - Many have families across the causeway and there are deep historical and cultural ties Source: https://lnkd.in/guZd-BQD Anwar Ibrahim Lawrence Wong Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad

"A great challenge of life: Knowing enough to think you're doing it right, but not enough to know you're doing it wrong."
Blah blah blah. If Taiwan is the main focus on the PLA, then the SCS is merely projecting a screen to guard the fight flank of the invasion. If the SCS is the sole focus, then the USN FONOPs in the SCS has proven that the Chinese Navy cannot prevent US navy ships from entering and leaving almost at will. So this is a PSA from the PLA to the Vietnam and Philippines. But they outnumber the naval resources of the two ASEAN countries, so no one is going to go to war to seize an atoll. But again, this is the right action to the right audience to solve the wrong problem. (I mean all these drills is to show XJP that the PLA/PLN/PLAF are ready to repel a non-existent invasion by VN and PHP. Does not solve the problem of the images of Chinese vessels water-cannoning the way smaller PHP resupply ships as the latter 'assault' their way to their comrades with wonderweapons of reporters with top secret handheld cameras mounted on smartphones. That is almost as impactful as the post-6/4 picture of the man vs tanks at TianAnMen.

The multi-million Euro assistance, supplied by the EU European Peace Facility (EPF), will assist in strengthening the operational capabilities of the Ivoirian armed forces to secure areas close to the landlocked country’s borders with Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Sudan. Funds will also go to counter non-state armed groups which are destabilising the country and the West Africa region, an EU statement said in part. This assistance will see the European bloc provide non-lethal equipment to upgrade intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities of the Air Force of Côte d’Ivoire'

NAVAL GAZING: "China’s headlong maritime expansionism depends heavily upon achieving dominance of the South China Sea (SCS) and its environs. This dominance demands the establishment of control of many areas of the sea that are currently claimed by other nations. "Beijing’s chosen tools to negate such claims are the patrol assets of the China Coast Guard (CCG) and the 'fishing vessels' of the People’s Armed Forces Maritime Militia (PAFMM). Over the past decade, these forces have established a massive presence in the SCS. Now, they are targeting a significant number of specific areas for intensive operations that involve the establishment of a permanent or near-permanent presence of Chinese government vessels with the aim of ensuring long-term Chinese control. "Recent months have also seen Beijing stepping up its encroachment on the islands governed by Taiwan. "Tactics being used include the harassment of fishing vessels and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) patrol ships escorting garrison resupply convoys, and the deployment of PAFMM craft en masse to raft up and obstruct entry into and egress from the targeted area. "The reach, expansion, and persistence of China’s proactive operations in the SCS are not widely appreciated. Particularly active in these operations are the Zhongyu, Zhongtao, and Jingdao class patrol ships of the CCG. These converted corvettes each have a warship profile and mount highly visible, medium-calibre fixed armament. "Recent reports indicate that PAFMM craft are adopting the CCG colour scheme, and this is leading to speculation that the two forces might be heading for a merger." Full article link in comments.
