𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲, our mobile MMORTS, is set in an ancient alien galaxy engulfed in an all-out intergalactic war between 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a human-powered, anti-AI military coalition; 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲, the most powerful faction, worshiping ancient sentient AI; and 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿, a free coalition of various tribes. If you find yourself in another conversation about whether AI's going to destroy humanity, you should casually mention submarines. Not just any submarines. Leonardo da Vinci's submarines. The ones that were never built. Over 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci had an idea for a submersible vessel but he refused to share his sketches. He kept them secret. It took another 200 years for the first submersible to be built, and another 50 years after that for one that could dive and surface on demand. So why did da Vinci do it? Why did he keep his sketches secret? Why did he hold back progress? The answer was simple. Da Vinci could see that his invention could (and would) be used as a weapon. And he wanted no part of it. He said, "I do not wish to publish this because of the evil nature of men, who might use it to murder on the sea bed.” Like the Luddites who came centuries after him, da Vinci could see that 'progress' is not a universal good. That sometimes, technology comes with a hefty social price tag. Now, I'm not saying that AI is evil. And I'm not saying that AI is good. I'm just echoing what Daniel Schmachtenberger said recently. That there's no definition of wisdom that doesn't involve restraint. #practicalwisdom #AI #luddites #military #submarines

In light of recent events I have been thinking a lot about all the things that unite us, compared to the things that seemingly divide us. Us humans, regardless of race/religion/nationality need the same basic food, water, air and shelter to survive, we even share 96% of the same DNA. We share the same emotions albeit at different intensities, we are all mortal beings, and after we are gone the only thing we leave behind is memories. When Apollo 8 Commander Frank Boorman returned from the maiden voyage that orbited the moon, he described the awe he felt looking down upon the planet we call home in the words of a poet as “To see the earth as it truly is, small and blue and beautiful in that eternal silence where it floats, is to see ourselves a riders on the earth together, brothers on that bright loveliness in the eternal cold—brothers who know now they are truly brothers." How is it that when we look at things from a bigger picture, the perceived problems disappear and gratitude sinks in? Is that what it means to be open minded? As an Indian immigrant who arrived as a student, and now a member of the armed forces I can’t think of a better example of people from a multitude of diverse backgrounds coming together, having each other’s backs and working together. If the skin colour or the religion of my comrade doesn’t matter in the battlefield, what does it matter in peace time? I took this picture last year as our ship was departing from base port, it made me think about the things that divided us, i.e., three separate services, different uniforms, different trades, different personalities, different appearances, different accents…. yet we were embarking on the same operation and looking forward to the same homecoming at the end of that deployment. I think life is the same. #RoyalNavy #ArmedForces #Diversity

The History of Thrawn's Secret Invasion Weapon in Star Wars' Expanded Universe Image: Lucasfilm Grand Admiral Thrawn’s instrumentality astatine the climax of Ahsoka heralds the opening of a Star Wars communicative agelong successful the making—whatever Dave Filoni has planned successful adapting 1 of the astir celebrated stories successful the aged Expanded Universe, Heir to the Empire, crossed TV shows and adjacent a movie. But different constituent from that saga could reply a precise important question: doesn’t a Grand Admiral request a fewer starships? From what small we already cognize astir the Imperial Remnant’s plans to rally astir Thrawn’s return, there’s fewer indications conscionable what benignant of fleet helium volition bid beyond his flagship, the Star Destroyer Chimera, that accompanied him, Ezra, and a full clump of abstraction whales to Peridea and a full different postulation astatine the extremity of Star Wars Rebels. But Heir to the Empire and its sequels, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command, offered him a enigma limb that stretched crossed generations of Star Wars adjacent earlier we truly knew those generations: the Katana Fleet. And possibly it could again, depending connected conscionable however overmuch Filoni and his squad instrumentality from Timothy Zahn’s legendary novels. Image: Killian Plunkett/Dark Horse Decades adjacent earlier the Republic was made alert of the beingness of the Kaminoan clone army, the Senate backed aggregate elaborate projects to enactment and heighten the effectiveness of the various, smaller defence forces aligned with the Republic and its subordinate worlds. One specified project, completed successful 46BBY—14 years earlier the events of The Phantom Menace—was the Katana Fleet. A 200-ship beardown fleet made wholly of Rendili StarDrive dreadnaught dense cruisers, the Katana Fleet was invaluable to the Republic not due to the fact that of the ships themselves oregon its size, but due to the fact that of the manpower required to prolong the fleet. Before the Clone War, the Republic Judicial Forces’ Starfleet was a fraction of the size of Republic navies astatine the tallness of its scope and influence. The Katana Fleet, carrying complements of experimental walkers to assistance successful crushed assaults, should’ve needed astir 16,000 officers to afloat unit an armada of its size, but done the usage of experimental, remote-controlled machine networks known arsenic slave-rigging, the Katana dreadnaughts could beryllium operated by a unit a fraction of the size, astir 2,000. ‘Race to the bottom,’ ‘arms race,’ ‘ends justify the means’, ‘vicious circle,’ and ‘perverse incentives,’ these all too familiar phrases owe their origin to game dynamics that favor ‘first movers’ or ‘corner cutters’ or ‘defectors.’ Collectively, these contingencies as a phenomenon have earned the symbolic nickname 'Moloch' and are among the most challenging dynamics to overcome. How does The Venus Project meet this challenge? Read more about the Moloch concept: https://lnkd.in/eDB_-BMz #TheVenusProject #TVP #resourcebasedeconomy #JacqueFresco #roxannemeadows #ЖакФреско #ПроектВенера #moloch
