The white cane is more than just a tool—it’s a symbol of the confidence and freedom that allows blind individuals to navigate the world safely and independently. White Cane Awareness Day reminds us that blind and visually impaired people live full, independent lives while giving back to their communities. It’s also a day to educate others about the importance of yielding to people using white canes and respecting their autonomy. 🔹 What can you do? When you see someone using a white cane, remember they are navigating with confidence. If help is needed, they will ask—no need to steer or shout warnings. And if you're driving, remember to stop and give them the right of way. 🔥An avoidable death where the issue of unsafe #prescribing has been ignored🔥 This feels like a conspiracy of silence. As a #healthcare professional, who taught on the independent prescribing course, I find this shocking. This was not appropriate for a #LeDeR (learning from deaths) review. A full independent review should have been triggered. I believe if the National Prescribing Centre had not been abolished following the disasterous 2012 NHS reforms, this would have been picked up. There are also similar cases of deaths where the prescribing should have been scrutinised. Three months into our new strategic plan, and check! Progress being made. Like most strategic plans, the proof's in the pudding. Plans aren't made to sit on a shelf. I'm super proud of the OHS team, who's making sure that doesn't happen. One of the pillars of the new strategic plan is to provide more second changes for all animals - and our community was pretty specific: they're concerned about homeless cats.
