Hi everyone, my name is Lisa Dimmick and I'm an assistant production manager at Universal Studios Hollywood. I'm currently working on Holiday Decor and this is a day in my life. I normally start my day at my desk checking and answering emails and attending any project based meetings. Today I received an order of flower pots and floral film that I have prepped for our Tech Services team to complete our Point Setta display later tonight. As the park begins to close, our team heads down to meet our install crew to go over our nightly schedule. We roll out with all of our crates and supplies. Needed for the night, we have 146 crates to store all of our holiday decor. The park is broken up by zones, so I have each crate labeled with its own letter as well as color-coded and numbered to dictate where it goes in the park. Tonight as we wrap up our last bit of install, I'm taking reference photos to update our lookbooks. Since we work at night, it's always good to have some eyes during the daytime. Running punch list of any item that needs to be corrected. We look for Bruce cords or anything that might have been missed from the team the Knight previously before I head out for the night. I do a final walk with our electrician. Even though I'm heading out, my coordinators and the install crew will continue to work up until an hour before the park opens the next morning. Thank you so much for joining me. I hope you get to visit Universal Studios Hollywood this holiday season.

🎬 2024 Box Office Trends: Recovery & Future Outlook
This year, the U.S. domestic box office reached $8.75 billion, a 3% dip from 2023, reflecting the effects of disrupted production schedules. However, the industry showed resilience with several standout moments:
✅ PG Films Reigned Supreme: Family-friendly titles like Inside Out 2 drove $2.9 billion in revenue.
✅ Disney’s Comeback: Hits like Moana 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine solidified Disney’s dominance.
✅ Audience Variety: Nostalgia-driven re-releases like Interstellar and diverse holiday offerings proved the power of engaging audiences with a mix of old and new.
As the industry adapts and prepares for 2025, with over 110 films slated for release, cinema’s future looks brighter than ever. Let’s continue celebrating the magic of film!

I love theme parks. I especially love Disney. For me, it's not about the rides in and of themselves. As I walk through the breezeway, under the railroad, and onto Main Street, USA, I am walking through a cross dissolve or a dip to black in film, and I leave the cares and stresses of my every day life and I enter into the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy -- I become part of the endless stories being told inside of the parks.
I could go on for hours about the design practices within these parks, instead I wanted to share this interview I found today with two #DisneyLegends, Bob Gurr and Tony Baxter.
I'm oversimplifying, but the Disney parks simply would not be what they are without the contributions of these two men. The combined creative genius on display in this interview is simply out of this world. To hear Bob and Tony chat about dreaming big and staying young at heart, designing from the heart in service of the story -- it brought a fine mist to my eyes. These men knew, worked with, and were mentored by Walt himself, and the obvious joy and love for the art of Imagineering is on full display.
Hearing Tony's story about how Walt was able to create his own Matterhorn mountain is exactly why I love these parks. It's not that Walt just had an idea for something, but instead it's the realization of so many disciplines -- art, design, engineering, to name a few -- everyone working together to bring this ludicrous idea -- build me a mountain!! -- into reality.
To watch them, towards the end of the interview, blue sky some solutions to current problems facing Disney attractions was amazing. The problem: mobility devices are slowing down the loading process of The Haunted Mansion, leading to longer wait times for guests, and a bad show for guests currently on the ride. To watch how effortlessly they came up with solutions that were elegant in their simplicity showed a true command for their fields.
I loved hearing them talk about how you have to create from your heart first, and then let the head fill in the how. It boils down to, you can have extravagant dreams, but nothing is created in a vacuum. You need a team around you, and you need to trust your team members to do their jobs.
What a wonderful interview!
The film industry faced a challenging year in 2023, marked by dual labour strikes, a disrupted film pipeline, and box office figures that have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels. Despite these challenges, the global box office saw a significant jump of 31% to $33.9 billion, led by major hits like "Barbenheimer." However, this growth couldn't offset the financial pressures faced by TV studios and the broader industry fallout from the strikes.
The significant rise in box office revenues in 2023 suggests that audiences are returning to theatres, yet major studios are still grappling with various financial pressures. Three potential hypotheses for the mixed financial outcomes are:
- Changing Consumer Behavior: The shift towards streaming services, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has caused audiences to consume content differently. Theatres are no longer the primary mode of movie consumption, reducing box office inflows.
- Rising Success of Indie Movies: Independent films may be capturing a larger share of the box office, drawing audiences with unique storytelling and innovative approaches, thereby impacting the revenues of traditional major studio releases.
- Increased Marketing Costs: The escalating costs associated with marketing and promotion, especially in a competitive landscape, might be eroding the profits of major studios, despite high box office revenues.
Which of these hypotheses do you believe is the true reason behind these outcomes? Share your thoughts in the comments!

WHAT IS FILM PROGAMMING ?
Film programming is the process of selecting, scheduling, and curating films for screening in cinemas. It involves choosing which movies to show, when to show them, and how often, considering audience preferences, seasonal trends, box office potential, and screen availability. A key aspect of programming is the ability to amend schedules based on demand, adjusting screenings to maximize audience engagement and revenue.
Key responsibilities include:
Film Selection: Choosing films that appeal to the theater's target audience.
Scheduling: Determining the timing and frequency of screenings.
Demand-Based Adjustments: Modifying schedules in real time based on audience demand and box office performance to capitalize on popular films.
Event Coordination: Organizing special screenings like premieres, film festivals, or themed events.
Analytics: Using data on box office trends and audience behavior to inform programming decisions.
By dynamically adjusting the film lineup, programmers can ensure that the theater stays responsive to audience preferences and maximizes profitability.

How can movie theatres attract more viewers? #LIPostingChallenge#LinkedInNewsIndia
Lights, camera, action! While box office revenues soar, movie theatres grapple with declining footfalls, as highlighted by Livemint's recent report. Despite a triumphant comeback for the Indian film industry in 2023, with 157.4 million cinema-goers flocking to theatres, there's a shadow cast over the silver screen.
The numbers paint a promising picture: a 29% surge in attendance from the previous year and box office revenues exceeding ₹12,000 crore for the first time. Yet, beneath the surface lies a concerning narrative - a 20-25% dip in footfalls compared to pre-pandemic levels.
This divergence raises crucial questions about the future of cinema. Are we witnessing a fundamental shift in audience behavior? How can theatres adapt to evolving viewing preferences and reclaim their position as the ultimate destination for cinematic experiences?
As the industry navigates these challenges, collaboration, innovation, and community engagement emerge as potential solutions. Leveraging technology to enhance the theatre experience, curating diverse content that resonates with audiences, and fostering a sense of belonging through special events are just a few strategies worth exploring.
But the conversation doesn't end here - it's just the beginning. I invite you to join the dialogue and share your thoughts. How can movie theatres attract more viewers in this evolving landscape? Let's brainstorm together and script a brighter future for the silver screen! #CinemaRevival#MovieMagic#IndustryInsights

MovieMaker Magazine's Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in 2025: #5 Calgary, Alberta 🇨🇦
"Calgary is very welcoming toward filmmakers — even those looking to move there permanently. And its many attractions include a lovely and modern downtown that gives way to stunning natural beauty nearby, from prairies to badlands to the Rockies. The local 22% tax credit can go up to 30% when Alberta-based owners or producers are involved."
____
"We’re thrilled to welcome Calgary to the top five on our list of the best cities for moviemakers — though it’s used to ranking high on lists. Last year’s Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Livability Index ranked it the No. 5 city overall, in the entire world, and the top city in the Americas. Calgary is rising fast as a production hub, hosting high-profile projects like The Last of Us and Fargo. It was recognized for the latter at the 2024 Location Managers Guild Awards, in the Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary TV Series category."

If you or someone you know is considering a move to Calgary, for filmmaking or otherwise, I'd appreciate the opportunity to connect!
