I used to think people cared about why they were doing something. Then I had an experience that showed me that some people actually couldn't care less. After I graduated college, my university invited me back as a guest sound designer for one of their spring productions. I was thrilled as it was the biggest sound design opportunity I had to date. One of the novel aspects of this role as a guest designer was that I had an audio engineer who handled all the technical aspects of the audio system in the theatre so I could focus on the sound effects and artistry of what we were creating. Previously I was always my own audio engineer. So I set to work figuring out what I wanted from the show. I gave an initial sound plot to my audio engineer and she worked with her team to install speakers in the appropriate locations and make the system capable of what I needed. One day I was out in the house working on the sound effects and the audio engineer came to me to ask which way the speakers onstage should be oriented. I told her how I wanted the speakers to face, and was just about to explain what I was trying to accomplish when she walked away to keep working. It was shocking to me at the time that someone could complete their work purely based off of simple instruction without understanding the end goal. Understanding why was always critical to me growing up, I practically couldn't do anything unless I understood the intention behind it. I discovered that I could drastically simplify communication with most people. The ones who actually care why will usually ask, so there's no use boring the people who don't. -------- If you found this insightful, consider re-sharing ♻️ and follow me to continue seeing posts about innovation and automation in engineering firms. #Innovation #Leadership #Communication #Collaboration #Creativity #Automation #AECIndustry

As a sound engineer 🎛️ , I often find myself behind the scenes, but today, I want to shine a light on the vital role we play in shaping the auditory experiences that enrich our lives. From the studio to the stage, sound engineers transform ideas into soundscapes that move, inspire, and connect us. Whether it's mixing the perfect track, designing sound for a film, or crafting immersive audio for live events, our work is about more than just technology—it's about emotion and storytelling. Every day, I’m reminded of how sound influences our world. It creates atmosphere, enhances communication, and fosters connections. We’re the ones ensuring that every note is balanced, every dialogue is clear, and every sound effect captivates the audience’s imagination. Beyond entertainment, sound engineers play a crucial role in various sectors of society. They enhance communication in classrooms, amplify messages in public spaces, and ensure safety through effective alarm systems and emergency announcements. Their work extends to healthcare, where precise audio technology aids in diagnostics and therapeutic treatments. I’m proud to be part of a community that pushes the boundaries of audio technology and creativity. Let’s continue to innovate and elevate the art of sound! 🎤 To my fellow sound engineers, let’s celebrate our craft and the impact we have on society. Production #gameaudio question for Technical Audio Designers out there. Technical Audio/Sound Designer is usually a role that involves a lot of supporting other members of the team to do work that is assigned to them. When scheduling work for a sprint, do you (or your producers) allow for a percentage of your time to be allocated to 'support'? For example, if a sprint is 10 days in actual length- and the general production consensus is to scope for 8 days in a sprint to allow for all the usual stoppages (I know that this varies between companies and teams)- then from there to say 25% of the TSD is tech support time, so they are scheduled to do 6 days of IC sprint work?

When planning an outdoor event, one production mistake that can significantly impact the experience is ignoring the acoustics of the venue. Unlike indoor venues, outdoor spaces can have unpredictable sound dynamics due to the open environment. Here’s how to avoid this: 1. Sound Mapping: Conduct a sound mapping exercise during the planning phase to understand how sound travels in the venue. This helps identify potential problem areas. 2. Quality Sound Equipment: Invest in high-quality sound equipment designed for outdoor use. This includes powerful speakers and microphones that can handle ambient noise. 3. Professional Sound Technician: Hire a professional sound technician who can adjust sound levels in real-time and ensure consistent audio quality throughout the event. Addressing the acoustics can ensure that your event’s sound quality is impeccable, enhancing the overall experience for your guests. At WML, we fine-tune every detail so your outdoor events really hit the mark. Want to ensure your next event sounds perfect? Not to offend anyone. I really don't understand why Sound Engineers are paid so low!? A reputed audio post-production studio is hiring for two positions 1 Dubbing Director for 5 LPA 2 Recording Engineer for 4 LPA Comparing the two jobs Dubbing Direction is a job where the person suggests proper dialogue with emotions to the voice over artist sitting for recording . The person has no other task other than completing that in given time. Whereas, a Recording Engineer's job is not just recording. he/she has to see the length of the dialogue is coming in proper sync. if there's any issue the recordist also has to suggest something that fits with the sync and meaning. At the same time he also has to check whether the input recorded is proper for every single dialogue. The recording engineer will also have to look after the setup he's working if they're working properly and properly placed comfortable for the artists. the person has to run back and forth for every artist. And after all this hard work he is underpaid. This is not just about a recording engineer but every Sound engineer who's giving enough time to make something sound good but at the end of the day he's kept underpaid. What's the possible reason behind this unfair payment system? #soundengineer #recordingengineer
