Happy Birthday Organic Herd! Today, we’re raising a glass (or maybe a milk jug!) to celebrate two incredible milestones. It’s been a whole year since we rebranded ourselves from Omsco into Organic Herd! But that’s not all - this year also marks 30 years since we started our dairy journey back in 1994 with the creation of The Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative. 🌱🥛 For three decades, we’ve committed ourselves to doing things the right way - because how we farm really matters. From our early days as a small bunch of enthusiastic organic farmers, we’ve grown into a leading name in UK organic dairy. Through it all, we’ve stayed true to our values of sustainability, caring for our animals, and creating delicious dairy products. We couldn't have got to where we are today without our amazing team, our passionate farmers, and of course, our beloved cows! 🐮 Here’s to many more years of shaking up the dairy industry and proving that organic is the way forward. To everyone who’s been part of our story - thank you! Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or just joined us recently, you’re part of our Herd, and we couldn’t have done it without you. 💚 Here’s to many more years of great taste, sustainable farming, and making a positive impact on the world. Organic September is a month-long campaign which aims to raise awareness of Organic products, and the brands, producers and farmers who bring them to us in the UK. When you buy organic you can be sure that the products you are buying: Contain no artificial additives or preservatives. Contain fewer pesticides. There are only 20 pesticides that can be used by organic farmers all of which are derived from natural ingredients. This is compared to almost 300 pesticides used in regular farming. Conform to high standards of animal welfare. Contain no genetically modified ingredients. Have been produced in a way that is sustainable. It’s easy to get involved, just look for the organic logo! Here’s a lil’ poll for you cowboys 👇🏼🦾 How will we be getting our future food? 🐖🥕 Organic + farm animals 🦾🐖 Hi-tech + farm animals 🥕🦾 Animal-free hi-tech organic Politics/policy news cowboys POLITICO noted Britain’s most famous environmental journalist, @GeorgeMonbiot gettin' pretty critical of organic farming. Monbiot is a big fan of precision fermentation: making milk proteins with microbes instead of cows. While Jaap & Margaret (our Iron Lady) are totally on board that, they would give organic farming a lil' more credit. Organic has a lot going for it but as George states, impossible in today's food system. There's a huge catch, and the catch is the millions of animals called 'livestock'. But if we can realize truly cyclical, organic farming free from animals, using compost and human manure, we could free up half of all farmland to rewild & end animal exploitation. Now ain't that future a pretty neat place to be? #thosevegancowboys #precisionfermentation #alternativeprotein #sustainabledairy #futureoffood #foodinnovation #foodscienceandtechnology #climatesolutions #foodscience #foodtechnology #vegancheese #cheeselover #cheese #plantbased #vegan #futureoffood #vegansofig

As the Environmental Working Group (EWG) prepares to release its so-called “Dirty Dozen” list, which inaccurately disparages popular and more affordable fruits and vegetables, it’s important to note the information that EWG does not want consumers to know or see, says the Alliance for Food and Farming, in the first part of its blog series, "What the EWG doesn't want you to know." #freshproduce #dirtydozen #organicproduce #organic #fruitsandvegetables #ewg

OF&G (Organic Farmers & Growers CIC) has published a manifesto targeting policymakers, which sets out a framework for radical policy change based on the four principles of the organic food and farming movement – health, ecology, fairness, and care. OF&G’s chief executive, Roger Kerr says the future of food and farming is becoming a political hot potato. “The nation’s seen huge upheaval in the last eight years. A flawed food system has left the country at the tipping point of catastrophic environmental and human health crises. Decisive action cannot come soon enough. We need policies that create jobs, improve rural livelihoods while delivering sustainable and economically viable food and farming systems,” says Kerr. “Restoring this balance and equity requires ambition and vision from Government. The long-term effects of recent policies are still unfolding, but the need for action is urgent. One thing is clear; we must aspire to accomplish more.” OF&G says that by considering organic’s four founding principles, its manifesto identifies solutions that address the “huge disparity” that exists in current food and farming systems. Organic does not mean no spray, there are certified organic sprays. This is one of the many things I have learned from working on the farm and my other half the farmer. Of course there are businesses ie grocery stores, some farms etc that will let people assume it is not sprayed if organic. Since they're are people that are truly allergic or sensitive to some sprays regardless if it is organic or not it is best to look for label that states no spray and for businesses that have organic should really state or correct people that organic farms may use organic sprays and cannot guarantee they are spray free unless on label. #farming #organic #agriculture #marketing

OrganicEye’s Response to Blowback from the Attorney Who Runs CCOF: Many legacy certifiers read the law governing organics and refuse to certify hydroponic (soilless) produce production and livestock factories, whereas others, such as CCOF — likely the largest NGO operating in the domestic organic industry with revenues of approximately $27 million per annum — are more than happy to financially benefit from the industrialization of organic farming… https://lnkd.in/gu9M3_-U #organicfarming #organic #organicfood #organicagriculture #organic #organicfarmer Will Fantle Steven Heim John Roulac Cate Batson Baril Tim Fleener Karen Lopez Caroline Lamborn Mehta Benjamin Zanfagna Carol Presley, PE Mitchell Posada Jonathan Needham Rosario Safina Christie Badger Natalia B.
