In December 2020, Congress enacted the No Surprises Act (NSA), a provision of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, to protect patients from surprise medical bills in certain circumstances and establish a process for providers and insurers and health plans to determine out-of-network reimbursement. This is critical. "Behavioral health" carveouts mean that my patients can't even locate covered providers. They are misled by United Health, Aetna, Cigna, etc, to think that coverage is equal when it is not. They are either not covered at all, and counted as "out of network, not counted for deductible" or with a dramatically higher copay, even when providers are contracted with the umbrella organization. Patients who are suffering find doctors on the insurance company website only to be told that they are not actually covered. https://lnkd.in/gDme8sWB

Just a Thought - Overcharging vs Undercharging for Health Care When health care providers "overcharge" for something, it is important to point out at the same time where they "undercharge" for other things. Hospitals provide free care for some, and below market prices for Medicare and Medicaid. Information in a vacuum only tells half the story, so information out of context means little. At the same time, not focusing on others who may overcharge is also a little deceptive. For example, the administration of health care and insurance far exceeds every other country. Where is the outrage here? Everyone says everyone else is at fault and the other guy is protecting the status quo.
