Research by CBE Prof. Margaret (Xiaoguang) Liu featured by Ohio State News today details Liu's study in which light-induced gene therapy disables the energy center of cancer cells. In the study, targeted delivery of the therapy shrank brain and breast tumors in mice. Researchers led by Lufang Zhou and Margaret (Xiaoguang) Liu have developed a light-induced gene therapy that damages cancer cells’ mitochondria, triggering widespread cancer cell death in mouse models of brain and breast cancer. Zhou 🗣️ “We disrupt the membrane so mitochondria cannot work functionally to produce energy or work as a signaling hub. I'm thrilled to share our latest research uncovering the intricate mechanisms through which transposable elements (TEs) contribute to gene regulation in liver cancer. 🌟 Liver-TEs are predominantly occupied by the histone demethylase, KDM1A. KDM1A negatively influences the methylation of histone H3 Lys4 (H3K4) of liver-TEs, resulting in the epigenetic silencing of HNF4A expression. By negativly affecting HNF4A methylation, KDM1A facilitates liver cancer cell proliferation, highlighting a promising therapeutic target. 🧬🔬 Kudos to our dedicated research team for their hard work and groundbreaking discoveries! 🙌 #LiverCancerResearch #GeneRegulation #TransposableElements #CancerTherapy #BiomedicalResearch #HNF4A #KDM1A

Dr. Gong Tang’s new publication titled "Tumor Intrinsic Subtypes and Gene Expression Signatures in Early-Stage ERBB2/HER2-Positive Breast Cancer" analyzes three randomized clinical trials including 1289 patients with ERBB2/HER2-positive EBC, the association between pCR and EFS differed by tumor intrinsic subtype and the benefit of dual ERBB2/HER2-blockade was limited to ERBB2-enriched tumors .
