🎉 Last week, we celebrated the incredible career of Steven A. Rosenberg, M.D., Ph.D., Chief of the Surgery Branch. Hundreds of attendees both in-person and online came together to honor his pioneering in the development of effective immunotherapies for patients with advanced cancer. Former and current colleagues, trainees and patients were able to thank Dr. Rosenberg for his impact on the field and discuss the optimism they have for the future of cancer research because of his work. Thank you to the Center for Excellence in Immunology for sponsoring, the organizers and to everyone who participated in this incredible symposium. 👏 Share your favorite photo if you attended or a memory you have with Dr. Rosenberg in the comments! 🌟 As National Hispanic Heritage Month wraps up, Timothy Watts, M.P.H., Diversity and Inclusion Specialist, reflects on his time as a Health Educator for California’s Department of Health Care Services. His work delivering breast and cervical cancer education to Hispanic/Latine and Indigenous communities offered invaluable insights into the importance of culturally tailored health education. These lessons are reflected in CCR’s initiatives, such as its commitment to reducing barriers to clinical trial participation and increasing access for communities that have historically faced challenges in contributing to cancer research. 📖 Read more about these reflections and insights: https://lnkd.in/dRhwVPS6 Let’s continue to celebrate and uplift the contributions of Hispanic/Latine communities in advancing health equity! 👏 National Cancer Institute (NCI), The National Institutes of Health, National Institutes of Health (NIH): Intramural Research Program (IRP)

🗓 UPCOMING EVENT: Our Cancer Moonshot programs at the National Cancer Institute and Center for Cancer Research, NCI-CONNECT and MyPART, are co-hosting an educational webinar to continue to bring awareness to gaps and opportunities for collaboration in care for adolescents and young adults (AYA) with central nervous system (CNS) tumors. The co-chairs include senior clinicians, Dr. Marta Penas-Prado (NCI-CONNECT, Neuro-Oncology Branch) and Dr. John Glod (MyPART, Pediatric Oncology Branch), and chief and senior investigator, Dr. Brigitte Widemann (MyPART, Pediatric Oncology Branch). Our Acting Co-director, Dr. James Gulley, will provide opening remarks. The webinar will have expert speakers to address what we know about CNS tumors in AYAs—prevalence, incidence and survival data—the molecular differences across the age spectrum, unmet needs in clinical care and clinical trial access, and support and survivorship topics like psychological support, symptom management, and onco-fertility. The webinar on October 30, starting at 11 a.m. ET, is free and open to the public. We encourage health care professionals, patients, caregivers, and advocates to attend.
