Ramadan Mubarak! / Happy Ramadan to all those celebrating! Some #inclusive workplace practices? Ramadan 2024 is expected to begin worldwide on 11 or 12 March and end on 9 April (subject to the sighting of the moon) 🌖🌙 This is a period of #celebration and #fasting where Muslims abstain from all eating & drinking (even water) from dawn to dusk. 👉 How can you #support? 1️⃣ Remember that different people will be celebrating Ramadan in various ways 2️⃣ Show interest and ask your colleagues about their tradition 3️⃣ Join in! If you like, try fasting one day and share an evening meal together (Iftar) 4️⃣ Be considerate that fasting will likely have an impact on energy levels, coupled with longer nights spent in community and worship. 5️⃣ Be understanding! Offer flexible working arrangements as possible (work schedules, time off, inclusive meeting hours) 6️⃣ Even better: ask team members what works for them & what they may need 7️⃣ Provide inclusive office space, like a silent room to be used for prayers 8️⃣ Don’t make assumptions! Instead Ask, be Curious. Don’t assume that fasting is terrible. For Muslims, it’s a joyous month. 9️⃣ Some people may not be fasting (like pregnant & breastfeeding women, the elderly, women on their period and ill people). Avoid asking why. 🔟 The Eid-Al Fitr (this year expected on 10 April) is a very important holiday/celebration which marks the end of the Ramadan. Your colleagues might be taking time off to celebrate the end of the Ramadan month.
