In regards to registered or unregistered status of providers in my experience it has made no difference in service delivery. There are good and bad in both. In the NDIS arena there is not enough choice and control for participants to find providers who measure up to best practice standards. It is rare to find either registered or unregistered providers - who care - have integrity - exhibit good customer service - have good administrative processes - decent communication skills - who are trauma informed - have adequate education - engage measurable and maintain quality and safety standards - developed and implemented complaint policies and procedures If you narrowed yourself to choosing registered providers you could wait months or even years for services. Yes this is a system and design error. It should have had strict registration guidelines and a no payment if not registered policy from the start. It just wasn’t setup with a broad enough vision. Participants would suffer more unless mandatory registration was a careful moratorium arrangement. I understood that invoices are not paid if they are above the price guide for any provider. The system is broken isn’t it a disadvantage to participants to charge a surcharge. Congratulations Phil Hayes-Brown for being one of the registered providers.
It blows my mind that the ndis has allowed 150,000+ providers to be unregistered leaving just 15,000 -like Wallara -in the proudly registered camp. In case you are unclear -here is the fact sheet “ Registered Providers are regulated by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. They have to meet strict conditions for the quality and safety of their services. They can’t charge more than the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. These can be found on the NDIS website. Unregistered providers are not regulated by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. They can choose to charge any price, either below or above the price limits.” If registration matters , and everyone knows it costs more , then why not allow them a price surcharge to recover that cost? The NDIA refusal to do this has naturally seen a flight from registration . And more are considering or doing it every day. https://lnkd.in/gQawrMtW).

We’re visiting Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia and would love to connect with NDIS participants and providers in the area. Together with the NDIA, we’re hosting a series of informal Community Forums in Iwantja, Pukatja, Amata and Pipalyatjara, where NDIS Commission staff will be available to meet with participants, their families, and advocates, to yarn about what we do, and how we help you to receive safe and quality services and supports. NDIA representatives will also be available to discuss participants' plans. Registered and unregistered NDIS providers and their workers are invited to attend to hear about their responsibilities and obligations. We’d also like to hear about their experiences delivering NDIS supports and services in the Lands. For more information and to register visit our events page: https://bit.ly/4bZnHRY The NDIS Commission’s Indigenous and Remote Operations team will be attending these forums. If any First Nations NDIS participant, community members or organisations would like to contact us for further information please email us at Indigenousandremoteoperations@ndiscommission.gov.au.
