There I stood six months ago on the terrace of the United Nations, the vast New York skyline behind me, holding the #SDGdigital sign - a symbol of Audiopedia Foundation's promise and global recognition at the SDG Digital Event. But in truth, it wasn't just a highlight - it was a call to action, a reminder that our mission is far from complete. With every recognition, we've seen more clearly the road ahead, and it is vast. The accolades and acknowledgments have been uplifting, yet they've also brought into sharp relief the scale of the task before us. We need more than just words of support; we need action, commitment, and tangible resources. We stand ready to transform goodwill into global good, to turn the promise of digital empowerment into a lived reality for women worldwide. Now, as we embark on the next chapter of our story, we seek bold partners and visionary supporters to join us in this mission. Together, let's create a legacy of learning, empowerment, and equality that endures. Because yes, we've come far, but there's so much further we can go — with you by our side. Throughout history, women have continuously proven their prowess in innovation and creativity, breaking barriers and reshaping industries with their groundbreaking inventions. From household essentials to cutting-edge technologies, their contributions have left an indelible mark on society. From the pioneering work of Hedy Lamarr in developing frequency hopping spread spectrum technology, a precursor to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, to the revolutionary medical advancements by Dr. Patricia Bath with the invention of the Laserphaco Probe for cataract treatment, women have consistently demonstrated their ability to think outside the box and drive progress forward. But it doesn't stop there. Women inventors have enriched our lives in countless ways, from everyday conveniences like the dishwasher (thanks to Josephine Cochran) to life-saving innovations such as the fire escape by Anna Connelly. Their ingenuity knows no bounds, and their diverse perspectives bring forth solutions that cater to the needs of all. Important topic. One I talk about regularly. These stats on the gaps in STEM careers are just the symptom. Women’s innumeracy and math anxiety (look it up, it’s a real thing - insecurity borne out of years of social conditioning where girls and women have been conditioned to value being “nice” over being competitive (and competent) especially with numbers or engineering problems) ….women’s innumeracy is creating immeasurable gaps in career options, earnings potential, innovation advancements, personal financial wealth and lost GDP This is a timely post and #womeninSTEM event for those in the DC area.
