Adam Fitzgerald is helping music lovers stay tooned in music events with his startup Toon.fm; an idea that started to grow legs in the NDRC #FounderWeekend. Adam took advantage of the local startup support in Galway, where he hacked this idea over the 2-day event, and has since been accepted to the NDRC Pre-Accelerator. Have an idea like Adam? Explore it at Founder Weekend next week in PorterShed. You’ve only got 48 hours to apply! https://lnkd.in/ePP-VTRJ

Head of Third-Party Partnerships at The Mechanical Licensing Collective | Maestro of Metadata Bizzy Award Recipient | Billboard Digital Power Player
Suno raised $125M and it appears they've also raised 125 million eyebrows. It's been interesting reading various takes on the raise, on the service, and the notion of possibly building a business on the back of copyright infringement, but we've all seen this before. 10 years ago, I wrote a piece for Hypebot after meeting several budding music tech startup founders at SF MusicTech Summit who clearly had not factored in music licensing into their music/digital media tech startup (some had raised money) and every word rings true today: "Putting lawsuits aside, it is important to understand the IP implications early on as it does affect your bottom line. Not taking into account the royalty payout requirements for the various licenses you’d need means your profit projections will be dramatically skewed (which doesn’t make for happy investors). I strongly recommend that anyone considering launching a music tech startup (or a startup that incidentally uses music, such as any video platform that allows UGC or a website with music as a complement to the core product offering) consult an IP attorney or at least a music business consultant who understands IP as it relates to new and emerging business models, like the author. Lastly, founders should consider the fact that the music tech companies who many aim to imitate have been beat into submission, sued into extinction, or raped of equity over the years. Napster, Youtube, Grooveshark, Myspace, Limewire, ReDigi, Veoh, iMeem, Vevo, Spotify, Thumbplay, Songbird, and many lost souls who’ve you’ve never heard about have all faced the big music machine. For those big enough to kick and fight, they may prolong the inevitable, all while not turning a profit—Pandora." Initial knee-jerk reactions upon hearing how Suno raised $125 million weren't necessarily positive (including mine). However, the radically optimistic take is that there is a strong growth market for music technology companies innovating music. Music is a fundamental of life, and therefore has profound intrinsic value. Music and technology will continue to shine new paths for humans to interact with sound. 2.5 years since I started Soundromeda, I've encountered three types of people: those who see the big vision I'm after and believe I can execute it, those that are too mystified by our innovation they need to see how others react to it first, and those that are so high-nosed in their gated circles they won't even give us a chance (lol at the last group). As a bootstrapped founder, the road is arduous and lonely, but we've built a great team along the way along with dozens of industry partners to persevere through the noise. Eventually, Soundromeda will have our day in the sun, and most of you will be blown away at how spot-on we are with our gameplay experiences, product design and strategy around the wild nature of music and IP while integrating the best of Web3 and our own AI. This is a true culmination of my life's path, and I wouldn't have it any other way. All will be revealed soon enough ;-) #music #gaming #web3 #ai

“What’s your favourite type of music?” That’s the question Coach asked Kendall at the start of their session. She’s my daughter so of course she says hip hop! ;) But what’s the thing that music offers us? Rhythm. The way you dribble the soccer ball requires rhythm. And it’s no different than go-to-market for our startups. No rhythm? No predictability. Revenue is lumpy. Damn near impossible to repeatedly acquire your ICP. Damn near impossible to repeatedly get your ICP to adoption. Damn near impossible to repeatedly get your ICP to a point of reference-ability or expansion or even a renewal. So how do we build rhythm into our GTM in our early stage startup? Two immediate things to do: 1. Spend the majority of your week with prospects and customers. Learn feverishly. 2. Dissect every deal you win or lose. Learn feverishly. Keep your ears to these drum beats. And build them into a playbook. It’s an iterative process. That just doesn’t stop. Continuously invested in enabling your people. That too doesn’t stop. Create your rhythm. And give your team that rhythm.
