While phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) offers numerous advantages for weld inspection, there are also some limitations and challenges associated with its use. These include:
𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠:
PAUT requires a higher level of technical expertise and training compared to conventional ultrasonic testing methods. The setup, configuration, and interpretation of the data require a skilled operator with specialized knowledge. Adequate training and ongoing competency assessment of the operator are essential to ensure reliable and accurate inspections.

The size and configuration of the phased array probe may limit the inspection coverage area. In some cases, it may be challenging to access certain areas of the weld joint due to geometric constraints or limited probe maneuverability. This can be especially relevant for complex joint geometries or welds in confined spaces.
