Is it possible to envision a future where biomedical engineering programs are all embedded in healthcare systems? - At University of Michigan the proximity of engineering and the health system is unique. There are tremendous benefits from going from - bench - to healthcare setting - to bench - so fluidly. - physicians have an outlet for problems and challenges - engineers have real world problems to focus on in their lab Is this the model transferable? Can we make it less unique? - Watch the full episode here: https://bit.ly/3XMSay2 - Amplitude Vascular Systems MassMEDIC Boyd Biomedical

【Joining Hands in Testing Times - Dr Thomas Lee】 “At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, two diagnostic tests were available – a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, which detects the genetic material of a virus; and a rapid antigen test (RAT), which detects the proteins present in a virus. PCR tests are sensitive and accurate, but testing a sample requires a specialised instrument and a laboratory setting. RATs, on the other hand, are quick and generate a result within 15 minutes but have low sensitivity. That is what spurred Prof. YIP Shea-ping, Chair Professor and Head of HTI, to join forces with Dr Thomas Lee, Associate Professor and Associate Head (Academic) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), to develop a revolutionary technique that achieves the best of both worlds. The resulting innovative portable nucleic acid test is called gold nanoparticles-based loop-mediated isothermal amplification (Gold-LAMP)……” [PolyImpact: PolyU Inventions and Innovations that Benefit the World, Volume II P.80-82 & 89 (https://polyu.hk/zEhzZ)] #PolyUBME #BME #research #innovation #polyimpact
