What Is World Teachers' Day? 🎁World Teachers’ Day is an annual event held worldwide in celebration of teachers everywhere. The day aims to highlight the hard work of teachers and the crucial role they play in child development. 🎁World Teachers’ Day gives us an opportunity to appreciate the efforts of teachers all over the world. It also helps to highlight issues faced by educators, and look at ways that the teaching profession can be improved. 🎁The event is co-convened by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Education International (EI). 🎁What Is the History of World Teachers’ Day? The history of World Teachers’ Day goes back to 1994, when it was decided that there should be a global event to celebrate teachers and teaching. The date of 5th October was chosen because it is the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO / UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This is an instrument that outlines the universal standards, rights and responsibilities for teachers. It sets benchmarks for teacher recruitment and retention, initial teacher training, and ongoing professional development for teachers around the world. 🎁The first World Teachers’ Day was held on 5th October 1994, and the event has been held annually ever since. The event is used to highlight the importance of teachers and the work they do, and to look at ways to improve teacher recruitment and retention by better supporting teachers and making them feel more valued. Great day for gifting and acknowledging teachers!! #worldteachersday #gifts #support #surprisegifts #customgifts #personalgifts #perthnow

Anyone interested in evidence-based policymaking should be paying close attention to this report about the positive impact of Sure Start. As well as educational outcomes the report also states that "the benefits of the programme are likely underestimated as they do not incorporate benefits to the exchequer in terms of increased tax revenue and reduced welfare spending, nor savings from reduced hospitalisations found in previous work." How tragic then that "Between 2010 and 2022, funding for Sure Start decreased by over two-thirds and over 1,340 centres closed." Short-term, short-sighted policy-making does great harm especially when its driven by political ideology not evidence.
NEW: Sure Start, England’s first large programme to provide holistic support to families with children under five, greatly improved disadvantaged children’s GCSE results. Read our new report, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, on Sure Start’s impact on educational outcomes: https://lnkd.in/edt53wkA
