📢 The 2nd New European Bauhaus festival is currently held in Brussels this week and we are proud to have contributed to the movement in our project work. 🌍 Together with Henning Larsen, we successfully coordinated the incubation of 20 place-based projects across 15 EU countries for the DG REGIO of the European Commission last year, focusing on small and mid-sized communities striving for a greener tomorrow. The New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative, which Ursula von der Leyen, EU Commission President, has dubbed the ‘soul of the EU Green Deal,’ focuses on transforming urban landscapes into beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive masterpieces. 🔍 Take a glimpse at how we helped European towns and cities with less than 100,000 inhabitants align their projects to the NEB approach and thus enhance their impacts in the slides below. 👇 For further information on the tools we used, check out our NEB Toolbox: https://lnkd.in/dSngFUVm #neweuropeanbauhaus #neb #sustainabilityconsulting #sustainablechange

Next stop 👉Zagreb! Looking forward to putting all my anxious post election energy into kicking off Bauhaus Bites next week. How might we transform food environments using the New European Bauhaus principles in the green transition? We’ll find out over the next 3 years… #foodsystem #greentransition #citiesforpeople
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new Horizon Europe project — Bauhaus Bites! ⭐ The project will deliver urban food environment transformations via New European Bauhaus principles in seven cities: Birmingham, Fundão, Zagreb, Murska Sobota, Ostend, Palermo, and Sarajevo. 🌍 Gehl will be guiding participating cities in applying the principles to make impactful changes in the local food environments. By collaborating with city and regional authorities, we'll ensure inclusive participation and co-creation, fostering community- and business-driven initiatives that directly benefit residents. Through #BauhausBites, we’re building a culture of people-centered data collection. We will transform our insights into an action-focused playbook to inspire new cities to shift their local food environments. ☘️ We are looking forward to meeting project partners at the kick-off meeting 12-14 November in Zagreb. We can’t wait to get started! 🤩 Bauhaus Bites will last for three years and is funded under the topic: resilient, inclusive, healthy and green rural, coastal and urban communities. 🙌 Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), NTNU Faculty of Architecture and Design, European Research Executive Agency (REA), EU Science, Research and Innovation.

🚆 🕰️ Explore the trailblazing innovations that shaped today's urban mobility. 💭 Imagine Budapest at the turn of the 20th century, a bustling metropolis in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The population was booming, and the streets were crowded with horse-drawn trams and carriages. 📃 Siemens & Halske embarked on a bold new project: the first electric underground railway on the European continent, just in time for Hungary’s 1896 Millennium Exhibition. The plan? A 3.75 km underground line along Andrássy Avenue, running from Gizella Square to City Park. ⚡️ Despite challenges, construction began swiftly in August 1894, and by May 2, 1896, the Millennium Underground was inaugurated. During the exhibition, trams ran as frequently as every two minutes, moving nearly 2.3 million passengers in just a few months. 🚇 Today, this pioneering line, known as the Millennium Underground, is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site but also an essential part of Budapest’s transit system. Stay tuned for the next post to see how these early innovations blazed the trail for modern urban mobility. #TransformMobilityForEveryone
