We have made further progress toward our ESG goals. The 100-apartment rental building at Päevalille 19 in Tallinn has been awarded the BREEAM In-Use green label with an "EXCELLENT" rating. Certification is still underway for the Lumi Majas properties in Riga (Terbatas 72 and Stirnu 40B), which together comprise a total of 255 apartments. The certification process for the rental house at Stirnu 40B has already started, and the process for Terbatas 72 is scheduled for next year. Once completed, all of Lumi Capital's rental buildings (approximately 2,000 apartments in total) will hold an international green certificate. In urban planning, minimum standards are no longer enough – the goals are more ambitious, taking into account both sustainability and quality. 🌱 🏗 For some time now, urban planning has been talking about a sustainable human scale city, one where daily services are within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. 🚲 In Helsinki-Uusimaa Region, sustainability and quality of life are values strongly present in urban planning and development, both on the regional and local level. – The idea of a human scale city comes from understanding people’s behaviour and needs. It has a certain compact scale and solutions that encourage walking and cycling. The construction of streets and parks of the new Pihlajaniemi district in Turku Finland is finally starting this week, bringing to life a neighborhood designed with a human-centered approach. Emphasizing the Soft City principles, Pihlajaniemi will be a walkable, nature-integrated community where green spaces, pedestrian pathways, and diverse urban environments encourage social interaction and a high quality of life. This new district is planned to be not just a place to live but a vibrant community where residents can easily access recreational areas, commercial spaces, and public services. I am particularly excited about the integration of nature throughout the area, including the creation of parks and green zones that provide serene spaces for relaxation while enhancing the urban environment. By prioritizing human scale, connectivity, and accessibility, Pihlajaniemi is set to become a model of modern, livable urban development in Turku.
