The future of European competitiveness is built on today’s investment in research and innovation. I welcome the clear messages of the Heitor Report. The Report recommends stimulating more industrial RD&I investment, underpinned by state-of-the-art Technology Infrastructures and many other important suggestions for the next months and years ahead. At the Prosperity directorate we do our best to make this happen.
🔬 How can we achieve a more impactful, streamlined & targeted EU #research & #innovation funding, harnessing Europe’s full potential and diverse talent pool? An independent group of 15 leading experts, chaired by Manuel Heitor, has presented to the Commission their recommendations to strengthen Horizon Europe, the EU research and innovation programme, and its successor. So happy to announce that my paper on 👉 Governing Integration Policies in a Multi-Level Setting: Austria and Czechia Compared 👈 has finally been published 🥳 🎉 🙌 After so many months (well, one can say years actually!) of struggles, this is really a pure joy in my heart. I am so grateful that my findings are shared by the 👉 CEEMR journal 👈 which devotes its attention to migration issues in the Central and Eastern European region. That is so needed ❗ I wish this region gained more interest of Western scholarly space too, as its migration experience can tell and teach so much. And yes, you can read the article even if you don't have privileged scholarly access to scientific databases. Because it's Open Acess 💡 Right here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eZe_km9M Looking forward to any feedback and possible discussions on the topics of 👉 the use of multi-level governance concept in migration studies 👉 governance of civic integration policies 👉 migration issues in Central European countries in general 😊

“Scientists and innovators, no matter where in the world they live and work, must be able to reach out to one another and work together across borders and cultural traditions, based on a foundation of mutual trust and understanding. This is what we are working towards: to establish a global ethical compass for research and innovation with people and values at its heart.” ~European Commissioner Iliana Ivanova. Around 1200 delegates are on their way to Geneva for the Diplomatic Conference starting on Monday May 13 at the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO. 🌿 This high-level conference aims at forging agreement on an international legal instrument – such as a treaty or convention - relating to intellectual property, genetic resources, and associated traditional knowledge. 🌿 An outcome would cap over 25 years of work at WIPO on these issues. 🌿 Simply put, one of the main proposals is that a patent applicant whose invention is materially/directly based on a genetic resource and associated traditional knowledge would need to disclose their country of origin or source in the patent application. ❓📖 Want to know more? ➡ Explainer, with a brief summary of the background, the issues and logistical arrangements: https://lnkd.in/ec8sMGFA ➡ Website, for more detailed substantive and practical information: https://lnkd.in/eFsgdrJq ➡ Formal meeting documents: https://lnkd.in/ea6-hwff ➡ Article, for an informal longer account of the history, context and key policy issues (the article was written in Feb 2023): https://lnkd.in/eyv-9ACw 🙌🏼🤝🏼🙏🏼The organization of this Conference is an immense cross-Secretariat effort propelled by superb professionalism and a genuinely great team spirit. We wish all delegates traveling to Geneva a safe trip. 👋🏼 I don’t think I will have time to post during the Conference ☺, so probably see you on the other side! #GRTKDipCon #traditionalknowledge #multilateralism #patents #indigenouspeoples #patentlaw #culturalheritage #geneticresources
