Here's a story with heart! Arno and Betty Neben are long-time Nebraska Medical Center volunteers. Betty works with other volunteers to at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millard to sew the pillows received by heart patients at the med center. The heart pillow kits are purchased through funds from the Nebraska Medicine Guild. The kits are then sent to the church for the group to stuff and sew them together. Arno thought about that when he was admitted last month for heart failure. “Three of the heart valves were shut down and the fourth one was clogged,” says Arno, who would go on to have quadruple bypass surgery on June 28. “When I learned I was needing heart surgery, I thought, ‘Hey, I think I’m getting a heart pillow.’” The surgery was a success, and now Arno has his own heart pillow as a keepsake. “This pillow made it from our living room through manufacturing and inventory at the church to the hospital and now back to me,” he says. Thank you to Arno and Betty and all of our volunteers for everything you do for others! #NebraskaMed #NebraskaMedicine #seriousmedicineextraordinarycare #togetherextraordinary
