Here's a story with heart! Arno and Betty Neben are long-time Nebraska Medical Center volunteers. Betty works with other volunteers to at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millard to sew the pillows received by heart patients at the med center. The heart pillow kits are purchased through funds from the Nebraska Medicine Guild. The kits are then sent to the church for the group to stuff and sew them together. Arno thought about that when he was admitted last month for heart failure. “Three of the heart valves were shut down and the fourth one was clogged,” says Arno, who would go on to have quadruple bypass surgery on June 28. “When I learned I was needing heart surgery, I thought, ‘Hey, I think I’m getting a heart pillow.’” The surgery was a success, and now Arno has his own heart pillow as a keepsake. “This pillow made it from our living room through manufacturing and inventory at the church to the hospital and now back to me,” he says. Thank you to Arno and Betty and all of our volunteers for everything you do for others! #NebraskaMed #NebraskaMedicine #seriousmedicineextraordinarycare #togetherextraordinary

Incisional hernias can occur in any location where a surgical incision has been made, but some appear in less common sites, such as the flank, upper abdomen, or pelvis. These hernias can result from previous surgeries, trauma, or weakened tissue, and they may lead to pain, bulging, or complications if untreated. Early diagnosis and surgical intervention are key to preventing further complications. If you or someone you know is dealing with an incisional hernia, consult with a surgeon who has experience in complex hernia repairs to explore your options for repair. #IncisionalHernia #HerniaAwareness #SurgicalCare #FlankHernia #AbdominalHealth #SurgicalHealing #HerniaRecovery #GeneralSurgery #SurgeonTips #MedicalEducation #roboticsurgery

Rib fractures are a common injury, often caused by blunt trauma to the chest. While most of these injuries are not life-threatening, they can be extremely painful and may require treatment. Rib plating is a surgical technique used to stabilize fractured ribs and promote healing. “This procedure can be particularly life-changing for certain patients and can lead to a decrease in opioid use during the recovery process. Immediately after the procedure, patients can breathe better and are relieved of the extreme pain associated with rib fractures," says Farshad Farnejad, MD, a fellowship-trained surgeon with dual-board-certification in general surgery and critical care, with North Suburban Medical Center - a part of HealthONE. This short discusses concerns about the use of materials with potential defects in gynecologic and hernia surgeries, specifically focusing on the tensile strength of fascia used in these procedures. It highlights the lack of consensus and variability in postoperative instructions across different surgical practices. The narrative points out that existing data on the subject is being increasingly questioned with a focus on adopting more patient-friendly approaches, Check out the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/e7mf-A9h #obgyn #surgeryrecovery #surgerysuccess #surgeryeducation #surgerytraining #OBGYN54

Celebrating Our Patients: Real Stories, Real Relief! At Discseel®, we're fueled by your success stories! We're incredibly grateful for our patients who choose us and allow us to be a part of their journey back to pain-free living. Today, we're highlighting Dave's story. Dave had Discseel over 10 years ago and he is still pain free and doing great: "10 years ago I injured my back with two herniated discs pressing on my spinal cord that turned into degenerative discs in all my lumbar discs. I even had two vertebrae that naturally fused together because one disc was totally degenerated and I wouldn't give into the surgery. Doctors told me surgery was my only option. I spent 20 years looking for an alternative without surgery. I was in a lot of pain and at the point where I couldn't work anymore. Found you on the internet 10 years ago and you had been offering Discseel® for 2 years prior. I went against what everybody was saying and went for it because it made sense. I am now 10 years pain-free and continued my career as a successful chef thanks to your vision and efforts to heal people with the Discseel® procedure. Thank You Dr Pauza" We're so happy to hear that Dave is continuing his successful career as a Chef and is no longer living in pain. Do you have a Discseel success story?
