We recently partnered with Nebraska Community Blood Bank on blood drives at Bellevue Medical Center and Nebraska Medical Center. EVERY WEEK IN THE UK & IRELAND, 70 PEOPLE SUFFER AN AORTIC DISECTION. SADLY, HALF DIE. On Sunday 17 September 2023, my friend Simon and I will be running in the Worcester Half Marathon. As part of this, we are hoping to raise awareness and money for The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust. An aortic dissection is a time critical-medical emergency that when diagnosed and treated on time has a better than 80% survival rate. 10 lives could be saved per week with the correct diagnosis. For some patients with aortic dissection, there is a hereditary cause. What do Domino's Pizza and the American Red Cross have in common? Answer: They both have an app that tracks your orders/donations and updates you every step of the way - from start to finish that is eerily similar and, for some reason, addicting to track. I pass by Piedmont Hospital Marcus Heart and Vascular Center every day on my way home, and lately, I've wondered if I can donate blood there. I have donated to the American Red Cross before (and know there is a donation center around the corner from the hospital), but do hospitals accept blood donations regularly? And if not, why not? I've included a link to how the Red Cross describes the blood donation process, but if you have any specific insight into my question, comment below.
