Let's talk 'active learning' (otherwise known as Off the Job!) 'Active learning' is learning that takes place outside of day-to-day work duties and supports development of the core Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours. Active learning must be directly relevant to the apprenticeship and could take the form of: -classroom/ workshop lessons -interactive learning/ coaching sessions/ online learning -shadowing/ mentoring -writing assignments -independent study- reading an article or listening to a pod cast! -performance reviews -exposure to new areas of work Still not sure? Speak to your dedicated apprenticeship Trainer! Here are #teamlindens top tips for maintaining a sparkling active learning record: -Book out the last 20 minutes of your working week to review active learning and log into your Smart Assessor e-portfolio -Keep a note of activities in your calendar -Liaise with your Trainer at reviews to ensure you keep up to date **Did you know** Apprentices cannot proceed through Gateway to End Point Assessment until they have evidenced the required active learning hours in their e-portfolio. #teamlinden #activelearning #offthejob #apprenticeships

Reflecting on Results Day and the Journey Beyond *Photos for cuteness purposes only. Yes, that's me! This year, I've had the opportunity to experience Results Day as a parent, witnessing the pressures of revision, the agonising wait, and the build-up to that pivotal moment. The anticipation, the anxiety, and finally, the culmination of 11 years of education all came to a head in one pivotal day. Looking back on my #GCSE journey, I remember the pressure and stress - not the grades. It was a new and uncomfortable atmosphere for me, as it is for many. Although the experience was challenging, I managed to do ‘ok’ and enrolled in college, where I continued to study English and maths. However, I quickly realised these subjects didn't resonate with me, so I often skipped the lessons. My Intermediate IT qualification sparked my interest, which allowed me to showcase my skills and excel, even if it didn’t introduce me to new knowledge. That experience led me to secure work experience in a Learndirect learning centre, which opened doors for me and has continued to shape my career ever since. I’ve come to believe that while GCSE results are essential, they’re not the be-all and end-all they’re often made out to be. We’re not all academic by nature, and that’s okay. For me, it’s about embracing opportunities and getting out there—something we’re deeply committed to with our Emerging Talent | Powered by Pathway Group pre-apprenticeship programme at Pathway Group. It’s crucial that we inspire, engage, and motivate our young people to explore new opportunities and discover their own paths.

Learning a new skill Online vs Learning during an Internship During university, students are full of juggling thoughts. Some might think that learning a new skill from platforms like YouTube, Udemy, Coursera, etc., is enough, and that it can lead you to a very good job. These platforms are really great, and you can learn anything from them. These platforms contain courses that even some universities are unable to teach perfectly. However, there are a few problems with that. For example, you don't know what the perfect course is to start learning a new skill, whether that course really gives you in-depth knowledge, and a few other things like technical difficulties, lack of motivation, time management, and challenges in seeking help and support, especially for shy or introverted learners. Although I wouldn't say that learning a new skill is bad; everyone does that, and it's a great thing to do. But what really improves your skill is working on that skill in the real world. That's where the internship is a must. If you are lucky enough to get a good internship, like I got in my last summer at the Center for Advanced Research in Engineering , and get a good supervisor, you can really gain an edge over your competition. Working in the real world is entirely different from solving some problems from YouTube. In conclusion, while online platforms are invaluable for acquiring knowledge, an internship propels that knowledge into real-world application. It's the bridge between theory and practice that transforms a skill into a craft. So, if you're on the journey of acquiring a new skill, why not embrace the best of both worlds? Learn the fundamentals online, and then dive headfirst into an internship to sharpen those skills, making them industry-ready. Remember, the synergy of online learning and hands-on experience is the recipe for success in today's dynamic job market. What are your thoughts on this blended approach to skill acquisition? Share your insights and experiences!

Well that's a fact learning online a certain skill for a person could lead towards a single idea 💡 rather than being innovative and search for other solutions as well which is exceptional imo... but during an internship you might get different solutions, ideas, innovations from your colleagues which is far more beneficial and no doubt a quick learning method
