Privatising Distribution Companies (DISCOs) is the way forward. The operational inefficiencies and power theft resulted in accumulative financial losses of PKR 500 billion in FY24 alone. DISCOs such as Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Quetta Electric Supply Company(QESCO) disclosed transmission and distribution (T&D) losses of 37.4% and 26.72% sequentially. On the other hand K-Electric, the only privatised DISCO has T&D losses of 15.27%.

In 2023/Q4, Distribution Companies (DisCos) metered 111,225 electricity customers, making the overall metering rate of electricity customers 44.39%.
