I will be presenting at the HAI conference next week, Tuesday, February 27th, 2024, at 11:00 AM! Come and join us! "Caution! Helicopter wake turbulence!” No doubt that’s a warning you’ve never heard or, at most, very seldom. However, several accidents have occurred because of helicopter wake turbulence in fixed-wing aircraft. This session will examine the impact of helicopter wake turbulence on fixed-wing aircraft. Continuing its commitment to safety and ongoing improvement, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a Safety Call to Action in February 2023 for a critical look at the U.S. aerospace system structure, culture, process, systems and integration of safety efforts. As part of its Surface Safety Portfolio, FAA is promoting three programs: 1️⃣The Surface Awareness Initiative to improve controller situational awareness and reduce runway incursions; 2️⃣Approach Runway Verification to improve the functionality of STARS, FAA’s terminal automation system; and 3️⃣The Runway Incursion Device, a capability used by air traffic controllers to provide additional situational awareness of occupied and closed runways. Aircraft Flight Control Systems assist the pilot in controlling the aircraft precisely. The aircraft flight control system (FCS) is an aerodynamic device that combines automation and electromechanical skills. The system includes the flight control surfaces, the cockpit, and the hydraulic mechanical links and controls. Currently, most military and commercial aircraft are integrated with hydro-mechanical control systems; however, new aircraft are integrated with electronic flight control systems or fly-by-wire.

Hey connections 👋 Article about aviation Aviation includes the activities surrounding mechanical flight and the aircraft industry. Aircraft includes fixed-wing and rotary-wing types, morphable wings, wing-less lifting bodies, as well as lighter-than-air craft such as hot air balloons and airships. Aviation began in the 18th century with the development of the hot air balloon, an apparatus capable of atmospheric displacement through buoyancy. Some of the most significant advancements in aviation technology came with the controlled gliding flying of Otto Lilienthal in 1896; then a large step in significance came with the construction of the first powered airplane by the Wright brothers in the early 1900s. Since that time, aviation has been technologically revolutionized by the introduction of the jet which permitted a major form of transport throughout the world. The aviation industry encompasses almost all aspects of air travel and the activities that help to facilitate it. This means it includes the entire airline industry, aircraft manufacturing, research companies, military aviation, and much more. In this article, you will learn all you need to know about aviation and its industry. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking

All-electric systems offer considerable advantages. In military use, they provide enhanced operational flexibility with increased range and power, eliminated refueling needs, and advanced power management capabilities. The lower acoustic and thermal signatures of electric vehicles and aircraft can enhance stealth and survivability, simplifying maintenance with their modular nature. In commercial aviation, all-electric aircraft may revolutionize short-haul travel by reducing operating costs and engine complexity. Furthermore, instant torque and precise power control could improve critical flight phases. However, substantial technical challenges must be overcome before widespread adoption. The current state and future of electrification are discussed in our latest blog. Read it at https://ow.ly/WnJb50TIf4G

Exciting news from Loring! The team is making great progress on the development of the airport master plan to make the former Air Force base part of the FAA National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). With this designation, the Loring Aerospace Port can play a key role in addressing the growing capacity in the Northeast US aviation system. This opens up great business opportunities in MRO, aircraft manufacturing, air cargo, aerospace research and development, UAS, AAM, and spaceport operations. Additionally, Loring is in the process of establishing a Foreign Trade Zone, which can be advantageous to the aerospace manufacturing sectors. Stay tuned for more updates! #Loring #Aerospace #Aviation #BusinessOpportunities #ForeignTradeZone

I’m lucky enough to personally know some of my colleagues in Human Factors, including Director Human Factors Nuno Cebola and have been in workshops led by Adam Smith C.ErgHF. Those workshops have personally helped me to better understand the ways our critical systems are used by our Air Traffic Controllers and the impact change (desired or undesired) can have on the people we trust to guide our family and friends around U.K. airspace. So if you’re young and reading this, maybe Human Factors and understanding how humans perform, and then influencing changes in engineering design, is an interesting career path? Let me know. #humanfactors #stemcareers #stemoutreach #natscareers #engineeringstudent #stemstudents
