Let that hug be in the form of empathy, trust and exemplary patient care. Our patients are already aware of the fact that they ‘might be making a big deal over nothing’, and ‘it’s just a needle’. They don’t need additional criticism piled on them. Grace, understanding and a show of support goes a long way. In those moments…. choose wisdom, a new way of clinical practice and evidence based care. Shame has no space in healing. It has no place in our profession. It has no place in medical culture. Let us break down the conspiracy of silence around shame and foster the antidotes. Foster compassion. Foster empathy. If you are ready to learn more and contribute to a global societal movement that benefits both patients and clinical staff members then all you have to do is……. When most patients walk through the doors of a hospital, they're stepping into an environment that, for them, signifies distress, uncertainty, and often, the bearer of life-altering news. As healthcare professionals, it's easy to forget the trepidation that comes with being on the other side of the healthcare equation. For us, the hospital corridors and clinical rooms are familiar territory; the sights and sounds that might unnerve our patients are part of our daily routine. But in that familiarity, we must not lose sight of the empathy required to connect with those who look to us for care and comfort in their most challenging moments. The Cleveland Clinic's video on empathy, "Empathy: The Human Connection to Patient Care," captures the essence of the patient experience and the profound impact of understanding and compassion in healthcare. It serves as a reminder that at the heart of patient care is the human connection. It highlights the fact that without understanding trauma and #traumainformedcare practices we will not effectively be able to communicate with a patient who may be having one of the worst days of their life. This understanding is also critical when it comes to addressing and mitigating workplace violence - an unfortunate reality in healthcare settings. Patients and families may be in heightened states of emotion, and staff members are often on the front lines. Training healthcare professionals to manage these intense situations with skill and empathy is not just beneficial; it's imperative. Partnering with a training organization that grasps the nuances of the healthcare environment and the emotional landscape of our patients can make all the difference. By focusing holistically on developing skills to de-escalate potentially violent situations, we can ensure a safer environment for both patients and staff. For those looking to deepen their impact and foster a safer, more empathetic healthcare experience, let's connect and explore how we can transform the approach to patient care together. https://lnkd.in/eBB2te4v #HealthcareEmpathy #PatientCare #WorkplaceSafety #HealthcareTraining #MOABTraining #WorkplaceViolence #training #iahss #SEIU #TheJointCommission

In the world of healthcare, a profound bond exists between clinicians and their patients. This connection is not only about providing medical care but also about the emotional and psychological impact that this relationship has on both parties. 🏥💕 As clinicians, our primary focus is the well-being of our patients. We strive to alleviate their pain, to provide comfort, and to guide them through their health journey. Each patient is unique, with individual needs and concerns that require personalized care and attention. 😷👨⚕️👩⚕️ What often goes unnoticed, however, is the profound effect that patients have on us, their clinicians. Each patient interaction enriches our practice, broadens our perspective, and deepens our empathy. We learn from their strength, resilience, and positivity in the face of adversity. 💪👊 The stories that our patients share serve as constant reminders of why we chose this profession. They inspire us to continually strive for excellence and to never lose sight of our mission - to heal, to comfort, and to care. 🙏💖 The clinician-patient relationship is a beautiful, reciprocal bond that goes beyond the confines of a medical facility. It is a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and healing together. As clinicians, we are infinitely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of our patients' lives and for the impact they have on us. 🌟🌍 #bethechange #healthehealers #physicianburnout #healthcareculture

🌟 Empathy and Compassion in Healthcare: A Vital Connection 🌟 Cultivating empathy isn't just about understanding medical conditions; it's about stepping into the patient's shoes, comprehending their emotions, fears, and concerns. Compassion is the driving force that propels us to respond to these feelings with genuine kindness and care. In healthcare, it's not just about administering medical treatment; it's about actively listening, acknowledging the emotional journey of each patient, and extending support that transcends the confines of medical procedures while putting into consideration the laws guiding doctors-patients relationship. Let's strive to create a healthcare environment where empathy and compassion are as integral as any treatment regimen. By embracing these qualities, we can make an impactful difference in the lives of those we serve, fostering a sense of comfort, understanding, and trust in their healthcare journey. #Empathy #CompassionInHealthcare #PatientCenteredCare #HealthcareProfessionals #drrawlings #ListeningAndSupport

Setting patient expectations doesn’t have to be difficult! Asking opened ended questions and meeting the patient where they are at in terms of understanding their eye health can really go along way for patient expectations and satisfaction as well as our own satisfaction with the physician-patient relationship. Dr. Elizabeth Shanika Esparaz shares her top 3 questions to ask to get a better understanding of her patients goals 💁♀️ 1️⃣Asking the patient, what is bothering them the most of their vision? 2️⃣Asking the patient, where would they like to see there vision go in 1-2 years from now? 3️⃣Ask the patient, how do THEY think we can help them get to their goal vision? #patientexpectations #eyecare #doctor #eyedoctor

The blog post, The Unspoken Truth: Why Apologies Fail to Rectify Medical Blunders, discusses the inadequate, often insincere apologies following medical errors and their ripple effects, including eroding trust in healthcare and inducing 'second victim syndrome' in providers. The article calls for a shift in the healthcare system towards transparency, empathy, and accountability, fostering an environment that learns from errors and prioritizes patient well-being. It concludes by emphasizing the need for genuine, corrective apologies that aim to heal systemic flaws and truly address patient concerns rather than merely placating them.

In a healthcare landscape that often feels disconnected and impersonal, possessing knowledge and empathy isn't just beneficial—it's imperative. True empathy begins with listening. For many navigating the healthcare system, their experiences and fears are as significant as their medical diagnoses. It’s more, though than hearing words; it's about recognizing the emotions and unspoken concerns that might not be immediately apparent. Shared decision making involves a clinician and a patient or a caregiver working together to make a medical decision that is best for the patient. Ideally the decision takes into account evidence-based information about medical options, the provider's expertise and experience, AND the patient or family’s goals and values. Principles of Shared Decision-Making • Sometimes there is only one option that is likely to achieve the outcome you hope for. At these times decisions really can’t be shared. • In many cases there are several potential options to consider, and different families will make different choices. • Sometimes there is no clear path to the hoped-for outcome. In this case moving forward depends on your goals for your child and family • In most cases you can ask for time to decide, even if it’s only five minutes. However, sometimes there aren’t even five minutes. In this case you probably need to defer to and trust the clinicians.
