When the people who use the products and services a company has to offer own and operate the company, it's known as a cooperative. A co-op is a business, owned by a group of people with a common interest who make decisions together and share in the business’ profits. By choosing the co-op structure, people work together to access a service or good - and this becomes the business’ purpose. Though co-operatives are a lot like other businesses, they have two key features that make them different: • All members (ie: owners) have the same amount of decision-making power (“One member, one vote”) • Co-ops give their profits back to members, based on how much a member uses the business, not how much they’ve invested in it. *** CONSIDER MEMBERSHIP TO NEERLANDIA CO-OP TODAY *** Even if you are not a member of Neerlandia Co-op, you're welcome to attend the Annual General Meeting happening at 12:00 noon on Saturday, JANUARY 13, 2024 at the Neerlandia CRC Fellowship Hall (4913 - 50 St. Neerlandia). Lunch and meeting to follow. Members will vote on: • 3 Director Positions • 2 Bylaw Amendments For more information, such as nominated Director biographies and Bylaw amendment specifics, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gs8FGpBn #NeerlandiaCoop

Project Researcher at the Center for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law (CCEEL) | Doctoral Candidate in Environmental Law | Research focus: EU Law and Post-Growth
A week ago, I had the pleasure to attend the Conferencia Internacional ESEE-Decrecemento 2024 Pontevedra. More than 1200 people showed up on site, with a common goal: making our socio-economic system compatible with planetary boundaries. It was a huge energy boost for me, just a few months after I started my PhD/LLD on The EU Legal System and Post-Growth. My main takeaways: 💸 #financingpostgrowth: financing social protection is often perceived as the biggest challenge to post-growth. Macroeconomic models are currently being developed to demonstrate that it is possible! 🌍 #GlobalSouth: The argument of post-growth advocates on what to do in the Global South has usually been that post-growth is for the Global North. I could see in Pontevedra that there is momentum for integrating findings from Global South-focused post-development research and Global North-focused post-growth research. 👩⚖️ #lawyers are starting to talk about post-growth! I had the pleasure to attend a session on the law and post-growth research agenda led by Romain Mauger, Judith Bueno De Mesquita, Marios Iacovides, Andrzej Strzałkowski, Anna Aseeva and to meet other researchers working on law and post-growth: Clara Vittoria Colonna, Ted Gleason, Ana García Juanatey, PhD, Roberto Talenti, among others. Below is a picture of the streets of the charming city of Pontevedra. More to come on this topic later!

As the clock ticks towards midnight, Key Patent Innovations Limited will be busy getting ready to attend the U.S. Ireland Economic Summit tomorrow. A day to celebrate a century of friendship, prosperity, and collaboration between the two nations. But why mark the day and more importantly, celebrate the relationship? Aside from both countries sharing a trade and investment relationship worth over US$1 trillion of trade and investment, and more than 100,000 Americans employed by Irish companies, and 209,000 people in Ireland employed by U.S. firms, consider the human element in our alliance. Our close ties were founded, nurtured and have grown over hundreds of years, traveling over and back across the Atlantic, building families, roads, towns, cities, companies on both sides of the ocean. These things don't build themselves. It takes a human, indeed maybe many of them, to foster these relationships, curate them and help them reach their potential. Behind every great element of our joint story, there is a human who made it happen, made it possible for our countries to succeed and forge a way ahead. So as we look forward to tomorrow's centenary celebration marking 100 years of partnership and prosperity between these two countries, it's timely to look back and reflect on how far we've grown together, as a people and as a nation, while also considering where to next for the success of this unique partnership. #USIRLSummit #partnership #USEconomicSummit American Chamber of Commerce Ireland Ambassador Claire D. 100 years of the Causeway The Johor-Singapore Causeway opened a century ago today! My state constituency of Perling is adjacent to the Causeway while the Second Link is located within my parliamentary constituency of Iskandar Puteri, keeping me constantly thinking about the future of economic activities and human stories between Malaysia and Singapore. On 9 May, my friend Dr Francis Hutchison of ISEAS-Yusof-Ishak Institute invited me to speak at a conference organised by Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore with the title “The Johor-Singapore Causeway: Celebrating and Conceptualizing its Centenary”. I was especially honoured to find that Professor Wang Gungwu, someone whom I have immense respect for, was seated in the audience at this fascinating event. In my speech, I shared my view that since taking office, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has put collaboration as the central feature of the Malaysia-Singapore relations, paving the way for initiatives such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone which is being negotiated now. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim is known for his support for closer ties between the two countries. Trust between the leadership is important. As far as economics is concerned, gone was the hyper-globalisation period when Singapore was the financial centre and China was almost the only consequential factory for the world. Post-Covid-19 with other geopolitical challenges, corporations are now looking for shorter and more secure supply chains. Collaborations between the two sides of the Causeway to ensure a safe and secure supply chain is what matters today. For seamless mobility, beyond the Causeway and the Second Link, as well as the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) that will be operational in 2027, more physical connections should be explored, such as ferries from Puteri Harbour and Forest City to Tuas, and other potential new linkages should be considered. In the long run, to make collaboration sustainable, it is the ordinary people on both sides of the Causeway that must benefit. More jobs at a much higher pay and more economic activities at a much higher level of complexity and sophistication must be created in Johor so that Malaysians will no longer have to work as cheap labour in Singapore.

Title: Learning from Europe: How Small Actions Reflect Big Values Hey everyone, I recently got back from a long trip to Europe, and one thing that stood out to me was how disciplined and responsible people there are, especially when it comes to keeping their surroundings clean. Let me share a moment that made me think. It was late at night in La Spezia, Italy, and the streets were quiet as my friend Ishan Deshpande and I walked back to our place. Suddenly, we saw a young woman walking her dog. The dog stopped to do its business on the sidewalk, and what happened next surprised us. The woman immediately cleaned up after her dog, using a plastic bag and tissue paper to make sure the area was tidy again. This got me wondering: why did she bother doing that when nobody else was around to see her? Was it just something she believed in, or was it something she learned from her community or school? As I thought about it more, I realized that in Europe, they emphasize taking care of the environment and being responsible citizens from a young age. Kids there are taught about the importance of keeping public spaces clean, and there are rules in place to make sure everyone follows them. This wasn’t the only time I saw this kind of behavior in Europe. From how well-organized their traffic is to how clean their public spaces are, it’s clear that people there take pride in keeping their communities nice for everyone. Seeing all of this made me think about what we can learn from European countries. Maybe if we focus more on teaching kids about responsibility and taking care of our surroundings, we can make our communities better too. So, let’s take a page from Europe’s book and work together to create cleaner, happier places to live. #CleanCommunities #Responsibility #EuropeanValues #LearningFromOthers #MakingADifference

SLOVAKIA HAS MANY GREAT BUREAUCRATS! They have deep understanding of their area of expertise, they have a can-do attitude and most importantly, they wish to help Slovakia to be event better place. What is holding them back? (i) Current framework of public procurements is by far the worst enemy and show-stopper; (ii) Related is a lack of utilisation of economy of scale. Public institutions are usually great clients, but rarely utilise this advantage in negotiations of better deals as the framework prevents them from doing this; (iii) Legislative framework pushes all institutions to resortism and standaloneness and thus strips our bureaucracy from know-how and costs sharing opportunities. This is most evident when it comes to IT and Data Administration services. Also, framework pushes them into maximalist mode of operation. I am strongly persuaded that 80:20 attitude is a way for our public sector to innovate and break the standstill for the benefit of general public. In the competence of the member of Council for Science, Technology and Innovations, I made these findings in the past months through 50+ meetings with key stakeholders in the public institutions, when I did search for ways how to improve functionality of public sector for the benefit of society and business environment. I will compile a set of the low hanging first priorities addressing these issues in the next couple of months. Your inputs are more then welcome!

(Corporate) communication expert l Spokesperson l Press relations l Crisis communication l Internal communication
What if your company plans to change something in my backyard 🏡 ? 😱 I have worked with Annik Dirkx at Lantis. Joris Bulteel has accompanied them and many other companies with their NIMBY issues. When these two experts share their knowhow to corp comm professionals, you can't miss out. 🗓 28 MAY ⏰ 18:00-20:00 🏢 Whyte Corporate Affairs, Jan van Rijswijcklaan 162, Antwerpen REGISTRATIONS: https://lnkd.in/ePEK4Bfr There are hundreds of them in the Netherlands, the environmental managers or communication specialists who help steer large or small projects in the right direction, who dialogue with angry neighbours and participate with civil society organisations of all kinds. Are our neighbours to the north once again a ‘guiding country’ that makes its way through the quagmire of complex projects with seven mile boots? Or has there been some movement around ‘environment management’ in Flanders in recent years? In the run-up to the elections in June and October, the topic is particularly high on the agenda: how are better communication and more care for the environment part of the solution to the permit problem, the future of entrepreneurship and industry in Flanders and the realisation of a high-quality public space and infrastructure? Because a good neighbour, isn't that what we are all looking for? #communications #NIMBY #training #tipsntricks
