Being part of the world’s largest platform accelerating women entrepreneurs in technology has been an honor and a mission I held close to my heart. Over the past months, I had the privilege of working alongside a team of brilliant, passionate individuals, collectively pushing boundaries to create a more inclusive and equitable tech ecosystem. A year and a half ago, I found myself at a crossroad. I had a dream but was too scared to start, wondering if I could really make it. My goal felt impossible: to build a big enough audience so that I could empower underrepresented voices in the tech industry Everywhere I looked—newsletters, social media, private founder/VC events—success stories were mostly well-established founders and investors managing millions. With less than 20% of tech influencers being women, and as a single mom and woman of color, I didn’t see myself represented and lacked a massive network. I kept asking, "Is there any room for someone like me?" But waiting wouldn’t create the change I wanted. So, I took the leap. With 2,000 followers and a big dream, I set out to amplify underrepresented voices in tech. I grew Women Founders Bay into the largest community of female tech founders in the Bay Area, supporting 500+ startups. I also launched the Founders Bay Newsletter (newsletter.foundersbay.com), now a community of 32,000 subscribers and 16,000 LinkedIn followers. Together, we’re reshaping tech—promoting diversity, celebrating women founders, and revealing hidden opportunities. So, I ask you: What’s your impossible? ✨ What an amazing experience at the techUK event on 'Unlocking Talent in Tech Scale-Ups'! ✨ I thoroughly enjoyed Tuesday morning, diving deep into the best practices shared by experts across the scale-up ecosystem. A huge thank you to TechUK for putting together such a valuable and insightful session. The fireside chat with Rebecca Simmons, Chief Operating Officer at Riverlane, was a highlight – her insights on increasing gender diversity in deep tech were incredibly inspiring. 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐭 ! This year 44% of the founders represented at Web Summit Lisbon were FEMALE. 👉🏻 It was a male dominated world studying business. 👉🏻 It’s a male dominated profession working in sales. 👉🏻 When I visit events in the tech scene, often it strikes me directly how little women there are compared to male. So knowing this change can be real, made my heart jump a little. ❤️ No surprise there as TechCrunch recently announced 70% of unicorn founders are ‘underdogs’. Role models like Jacinda Ardern with utterly strong leadership showing us things can be done differently. And just like Thamina Stoll raves, a woman who can look after her own financial independence: can walk out of any room where she feels uncomfortable. So no surprise here I’ve taken this one for the lady team!! 🙌🏻 👉🏻 I feel lucky to have BOTH male and female leaders supporting me on my journey. However, as a female entrepreneur with “no hair on my teeth” as my dad states, I’ve ran into certain moments where my mind has wondered.. ‘AHA, if this happened to me, I can’t even imagine what’s happened to lady founders around the world (up to back in the days).’ Be mindful and respectful please. ❤️ A woman getting out there, is not a cheap source to take advantage of. #CallToAction #share #repost As a woman tech/STEM founder, Forbes shared woman-led companies perform better, woman-led teams produce better returns on investment, and year over year woman-founded startups show 100%+ increases over broader startup exits. Why then did women-founded or co-founded startups in 2021 barely tap 25% of the market? Moreover, while that statistic is concerning, in enterprise software startups, that market percentage drops to an astonishing 1.9%. These margins are even smaller for Black & Brown women founders/led and Nonprofits. Some dialog around this. We know that more than 1/2 of women in STEM/tech walk away in mid points of their careers and less than .1% Black & Brown women receive VC funding. Moreover, our impact creates exposure, access and sustainability for rising leadHERs to see themselves in this space which advances economic mobility for all. Therefore, I've challenged myself to do three things in this #YearOfExcellence 2025 and I solicit your support and accountability! 1) Seek Opportunities to Pitch to gain support, resources and funding for recruitment, training and development of future workforce talent. 2) Collaborate with like-minded organizations, leaders/allies who serve or support women and girls and future workforce. In doing this, our collective work and engagement will foster a pipeline and pathways for us to strategically advance and strengthen our missions, programs and sustainable funding while reaching more to do more. 3) Prioritize my health, all of my health! (mental, spiritual, physical, financial, relational, educational, professional, community and friendships). As a healthy leadHER, I am strength with wisdom to serve and execute in excellence! So, where do you come in and what can you do? I'm glad you asked! Consider .. Forgetting those things that are behind and pressing toward the mark. It's been a little over one month now since I wrapped up my time at Techleap. What a ride that has been 🎢. During my time there I was able to do a number of cool things, and met some of the most passionate people in the Dutch tech ecosystem! I also got a front row seat to so many incredible founders, ecosystem players, and companies that are going to be the next big thing in Tech. Here's a few of my highlights: ‣ Contributed to the inaugural #DEITechSummit from Diverse Leaders in Tech, powered by Techleap, where over Dutch Tech 300 ecosystem players gathered ‣ Launched a community platform for the Diverse Leaders in Tech, powered by Techleap Community ‣ Initiated a working group focused on driving DEI interventions within the Dutch Tech ecosystem ⏭️ After a while I took on a different role as Program Manager for the Techleap for Scaleups team. If you know me, you undoubtedly will know that I am passionate about inclusion. In this team I was able to sink my teeth into a project that would feed this very passion. 🔍 I led market discovery, gathering key insights and offering recommendations that will serve as the foundation for new initiatives at Techleap. This project specifically addressed the underrepresentation of intersectional female founders in the Dutch tech ecosystem. 💡 Through this research, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges women STILL continue to face in building and scaling their businesses in the Netherlands—challenges that I know are, unfortunately, shared by women across the globe. 🫶🏾 I’d like to express my gratitude to the incredible women who generously shared their time and experiences during this research. Nomiki - what happened to your membership?! You were talking about it every single day, and then nothing. Is it still an offer?! HAHA yes yes and yes. I launched the membership on July 15th and closed the Founding Member exclusive on August 1st. My goal was 10 new members, learn from them and expand the offering. I signed up 24 new members. So when that happened, I was SO proud. So excited and thrilled to share the lab with more women. But I was also scared. I wanted to make sure every single person got in, had a solid onboarding experience, and was able to use all the resources available at the lab. The lab has SO many perks: ➡ Weekly Workshops by experts in startups ➡ Founder pods for accountability and goal-setting ➡ 24/7 community access to unlimited resources ➡ 30-day challenges ➡ Founder Fridays with a founder that's exited/raised ➡ Referrals and introductions (intros to vc's and accelerators) ➡ Documentation & templates for your tech MVP ➡ Training and education through workshops ➡ Access to development resources including no-code And that doesn't even include the intangibles I can't measure like tagging founders on LinkedIn to specific resources or connections I make 1:1 to people I think they'll genuinely receive value from. So here's what I did. I paused on talking about the membership because I want it to be a well-oiled machine. I want every single (aspiring) female tech founder to come in and have the BEST experience. It's so important to me that I provide value over fluff. So yes, I paused on talking about it. But soon it will be back and new members will be welcome. I think access to all of these features are so important. But connecting 24/7 to other women going through this process is literally priceless. And I'm excited to share that wealth with everyone. Stay tuned. PS.
