What better way to end the week than to launch a BRAND NEW & COMPLETELY FREE resource for teachers? We have partnered with Cool.org  to launch a new online education resource for teachers and students to fight against the alarming increase in hate speech in Australia. The free, online resources will equip teachers to tackle issues of racism, discrimination, antisemitism and stereotyping with their year 9 and 10 students, whilst also giving them the tools to stand up and take action against hate speech in their schools and communities. There is a set of six digital lesson plans in the resource. CEO, Mike Zervos OAM said today that Courage to Care Vic was now “more determined than ever to forge ahead with our mission to create a generation of Upstanders against prejudice and discrimination. How do we improve public education? Well, you start here- Adequate funding for all schools, especially those in underserved areas, is essential for providing crucial resources and modern facilities. Supporting educators through training and professional development is key to enhancing classroom effectiveness. Updating the curriculum to encompass diverse perspectives and practical skills can significantly boost student engagement and foster critical thinking. Community involvement, involving parents and local organizations in school governance, is pivotal in creating a supportive environment for students and educators alike. By addressing these crucial aspects, we can establish a more effective and fair public school system that equips all students for future success.

📊 Last year, we implemented five major literacy initiatives and, after assessing the effectiveness of our programs, we're ensuring we put our resources toward scalable and sustainable initiatives that will have the greatest impact: Family Reads Program: ✅ Scale As a result of Family Reads’ success, we are not only continuing to support students at Soddy Elementary School but have also scaled the program to Calvin Donaldson, East Lake, and Woodmore Elementary Schools. Literacy First Tutoring Model: ✅ Scale The Literacy First Model's personalized approach and consistent progress monitoring have been key to building students' confidence and literacy skills. The program has now been scaled to 12 elementary schools in Hamilton County and will impact at least 500 children this year. Out-of-School Time K-2 Literacy Toolkit: ✅ Scale The OST K-2 Literacy Toolkit is designed to “right size” literacy supports for afterschool programs. After a successful pilot in the spring with two OST providers, the program is now being scaled to four providers this year. In our modern technological age, parents often struggle to effectively navigate the use of technology in their child's education. On one side, there is the ditch of "huddle and cuddle," viewing technology as a danger to avoid. On the other side of the path, there is the ditch of "acquiescing to the inevitable tyranny" of technology. So where are the boundaries and what are the guidelines?
