Today is World Refugee Day and we deeply value our refugee population here at NFP. We recently got to sit down with Azahar AloBadi who originally went to Turkey from Iraq. From Turkey, she came to the United States and has been here for over 10 years. She has also been a patient at NFP for over 10 years and said she has found a second home. Equitable healthcare access is critical in ensuring every refugee receives the care and support they deserve. Together, we can heal and empower communities worldwide. World Refugee Day is observed annually on June 20th. This date celebrates the resilience, courage, and impacts of refugees worldwide. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of forcibly displaced individuals and advocating for their rights, protection, and well-being. Every year, We Are All America (WAAA) invites local leaders, partners, and advocates to join a series of impactful actions and events aimed at celebrating our refugee communities, engaging local elected officials, and learning more about ways to support refugees and refugee resettlement. As part of these efforts, WAAA, Refugee Congress, Refugee Advocacy Lab, and IRAP are launching a Digital Week of Action, a dynamic initiative designed to mobilize the field of forcibly displaced people and their supporters. This week-long campaign harnesses the power of social media, online platforms, and digital advocacy to amplify the voices of refugees, share their stories, and highlight the urgent need for robust refugee protections and resettlement programs. https://lnkd.in/gBxPEivU

Today, on World Refugee Day, we honor the resilience and courage of refugees worldwide, including those in Malawi's Dzaleka Refugee Camp. They have fled unimaginable hardships, seeking safety and a chance at a better life. Yet, their voices are often silenced. Recently, Inua Advocacy has faced severe backlash from the Malawi government for standing up for refugee rights. We have been evicted, threatened, and targeted simply for defending justice. On this World Refugee Day, we call for solidarity: Raise Awareness: Share refugee stories. Highlight their strength and struggles. Support Organizations: Stand with those providing aid and advocacy. Demand Accountability: Urge the government to protect, not persecute, refugee advocates. "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are." – Benjamin Franklin Human Rights Watch #WorldRefugeeDay #StandWithRefugees #JusticeForRefugees #InuaAdvocacy #HumanRights #Malawi

My father was a refugee. He fled communist Poland in the '70s. I grew up listening to stories of resilience and determination, but I would not be here today if it weren't for the fact that my father was given asylum right away and welcomed into the US with open arms. Today is World Refugee Day, and the same cannot be said for the 114 million refugees that are present around the world today. Their stories often go unheard, overshadowed by statistics and stereotypes. This is one of the many reasons why I co-founded The Hybrid Tours. Together with Our World Too, we aim to amplify the voices of those who have experienced displacement firsthand and to rehumanize the refugee narrative. Here's the catch: this is done through travel. At The Hybrid Tours, we don't just visit. We are about connection, education, and impact. Our unique travel experiences allow participants to engage deeply with local communities, learning from those who have lived through displacement. Through our travels, we foster understanding and empathy, bridging the gap between cultures and creating lasting, positive change. And we, of course, have fun while doing so. That's why we're a hybrid - the best of both worlds. Trips like ours are usually only offered by research institutes and universities. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in these transformative experiences. We aim to broaden the impact of our work, making it accessible to all who are willing to listen, learn, and advocate for a better world. On this day, let us honor the resilience of refugees and commit to changing the narrative. Join us in our journey to create a more inclusive and compassionate world through meaningful travel and storytelling. Travel is, after all, one of the keys to making the world a better place. #WorldRefugeeDay #TheHybridTours #OurWorldToo #RefugeeVoices #TravelWithPurpose #ChangeTheNarrative

Let us commit to fostering inclusive communities and advocating for policies that protect their rights. Refugees are individuals who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or disaster. They face immense challenges, including the loss of their homes, communities, and often their families. As we strive to build a more inclusive and compassionate world, it is crucial to address the needs of refugees, providing them with safety, support, and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Today, I would like to highlight Refugee Story Project. These non-profit aims to share the powerful stories of refugees from around the world, shedding light on their experiences, struggles, and triumphs. By amplifying their voices, we hope to foster understanding, empathy, and action within our communities. Join us in supporting refugees by: - Listening to and sharing their stories - Supporting community efforts to welcome and integrate refugees - Contributing to organizations dedicated to refugee aid and resettlement Together, we can make a difference and help refugees find hope and a new beginning. #Refugees #Inclusion #Compassion #RefugeeStoryProject #HumanRights #Advocacy

June 20, 2024 is World Refugee Day. This day, which was established by the UN in 2001, is an international day designated by the UN “to honor refugees around the globe.” Today, in 2024, the statistics are staggering. And they are not statistics. They are people. According to the UNHCR the latest number of refugees and internally displaced peoples forced from their homes comes to somewhere around 120 million. This is 1.5 percent of the world’s population. At the end of 2023 this meant that 1 in 69 people on earth, due to” persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order” were either refugees or internally displaced. Approximately 40 percent of these are under the age of 18. #worldrefugeeday #refugees #wewelcomerefugees Read the new blog to find out how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/gXmkMtuR

Today the spotlight will be on the millions of refugees and internally displaced persons who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disasters. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) plays a crucial role in coordinating efforts for World Refugee Day. The organization works year-round to protect and assist refugees and stateless people and to find long-term solutions to their displacement. #worldrefugeeday https://lnkd.in/etxG9qYX

The UN Refugee Agency reports that more than 120 million people worldwide are forcibly displaced, a figure that has increased every year for the past 12 years. Congress is planning to introduce a resolution ahead of World Refugee Day (June 20) to reaffirm the United States' commitment to promote the welfare of refugees and displaced persons worldwide – including children – as they flee conflict, persecution, and violence. The deadline for congressional cosponsors is Monday, June 17. Please take action today to urge your representative and senators to cosponsor this important resolution to ensure that the United States stands strong in its commitment to provide safety and security to those in need.
