Out of every 100 pregnancy-related deaths in the U.S., 12 are due to preeclampsia, a life-threatening condition that often goes undetected until it’s too late. An additional 25% stem from other complications caused by missed warning signs and insufficient healthcare. What’s even more heartbreaking? 80% of these deaths are entirely preventable with timely intervention and proper care. Take Allyson Felix, for example. The world-class Olympian, known for her peak physical condition and rigorous prenatal care, was blindsided by a severe preeclampsia diagnosis at 32 weeks. Despite all her preparation—prenatal visits, birthing classes, and a well-planned birth strategy—her condition wasn’t caught until she developed dangerous symptoms. Rushed into an emergency C-section, her quick-thinking doctor saved her life and the life of her daughter, Camryn. This is the reality too many women face: despite being informed and vigilant, complications can arise unexpectedly. But it doesn’t have to be this way. At Myri, we're working to change that. In this episode, I discuss with my best friend the possibility of her being Neurodiverse. We discuss her life, family, our 20-year friendship, and so much more. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had the opportunity to lead a research called Through Her Eyes. This collaborative research of Ethiopian Medical Women's Association and Impala Communication assessed the impact of the pandemic on reproductive healthcare services in Ethiopia. It not only resulted in a policy brief but also a video that showcased the challenges faced by women during the pandemic in accessing reproductive health services. The video features firsthand accounts from women using reproductive healthcare services and frontline responders, capturing the experience in a powerful and relatable way. It was my first video discussing a research project, and I'm not going to lie; it was a bit of a challenge, but I had a great experience learning health communications. Revisiting the video made me reflect on the power of this video in timelessly conveying critical messages. This project exemplifies the effectiveness of using innovative methods to disseminate public health-related research.
