We were deeply saddened this weekend to learn of the passing of Betty Halbreich, a fashion icon, personal shopper, and mainstay of Bergdorf Goodman. When Betty began her decades-long career at Bergdorf Goodman in September of 1976, few could estimate the impact her expert style, effortless humor, and incandescent personality would have on the Fifth Avenue landmark. She developed Bergdorf’s personal shopping services, and fostered an incredible roster of iconic clients. Clients came to Betty for her style, but stayed for her friendship. Her wisdom and wit made her a joy to be around, and she will be tremendously missed at Bergdorf Goodman and in the fashion world at large. Our thoughts continue to be with Betty’s family and friends.

Just like BG. She’s one of a kind. Absolute Impeccable taste and style.

A truly remarkable and inspiring lady. On my business trips to New York I often had lunch with Betty in her office at Bergdorf Goodman, I learnt so much from her about Personal Shopping. I loved her incredible wit and admired her vast knowledge of the industry, my times with her are some of the fondest memories of my career. I am so thankful to have known her as a mentor and friend.

She was marvelous...absolutely marvelous. She loved her work, her people - those with whom she worked. Those who benefitted from her wise, and lovely insights, taste and encouragement...... well, were the lucky ones. She is an example to all of us to love what we do, do it well, and do it with joy, for as long as we can. Age is irrelevant - except that it brings such amazing experience and perspective.

This is so sad to hear. My office was right next to Betty's when I worked at BG and I coud hear conversations clearly. Betty was sharp and witty, and people (everybody from famous designers and stylists to everyday folks) were always strolling into her office just to chit chat about life. She loved what she did and so did her clients. She's definitely left a void. You will be missed, Betty.

Elegance is more than style — it’s a certain warmth and kindness. She was truly elegant.
