I think there’s a misconception that DEI programs are only for Black people and the LGBT+ community. They are not. DEI programs support women. DEI programs support people with disabilities. DEI programs support veterans. DEI programs support people from underprivileged socioeconomic backgrounds. DEI programs support religious beliefs and interfaith engagement. DEI programs support parents. DEI programs support age-specific groups. DEI programs aren’t designed to make people feel bad for growing up with certain advantages. These programs exist to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate regardless of the advantages they may or may not have. They serve more people than you might realize.

What a great idea and concept.
I had the wonderful opportunity this morning to visit LeadingAge member, The Pryde, LGBTQ Senior Housing’s new community that opened in Hyde Park this summer. What an incredible project redeveloping a former school building into this beautiful, vibrant community that is providing affordable housing that is welcoming and safe for LGBTQ seniors. Thank you to Gretchen Van Ness, Aileen Montour, and Philippe Saad!

A Message from Theo Braddy: Am I Undesirable? People with disabilities are discriminated against and oppressed when people, especially those with power and influence, develop ideas, practices, and policies based on misinformation, myths, and misbeliefs about people with diverse disabilities. An example of a misbelief would be when mainstream society believes that people with disabilities don't contribute to the community and that we are only a burden to the community! This practice of discrimination and oppression is not limited to people with disabilities. It is done to other groups of people as well, such as Black Americans, the LGBTQ+ community, other people of color, and other marginalized groups, such as older Americans, as they age. When powerful people make rules and policies based on misinformation, myths and misbeliefs, it can perpetuate harmful beliefs and practices, and ultimately perpetuate systemic injustices. #Disabilities #SocialJustice #Equality #MarginalizedPopulation #Discrimination #LGBTQIA
