Staizen - First Asia Company Party in Philippines! ✨ We've always believed in the power of strong bonds and meaningful connections. Reflecting on our epic first Asia Company Party in the Philippines, it's a celebration that holds extra significance for us. 🇵🇭🌏 Fun fact! Staizen emerged during the challenging times of the pandemic in the end of year 2019 which meant that we are fully remote from the start. It's remarkable how we've managed to flourish. We now have about 100 staizeners within 5 offices globally but this was our first time being able to gather our whole asia team in person 🎉 Global virtual meetings often miss the social vibes we get from meeting diverse cultures in person. Our Philippines trip was memorable because we got to see first hand the care, hospitality and hype-up fun of the Filipino culture. The real handshakes and hugs, talks, and the chance to swap cultures between our Filipino, Singaporean, Malaysian, American, and French colleagues were moments you just don't get in virtual settings. The Asia Company Party was definitely a turning point. It showcased the importance of blending in-person interactions with digital innovation. We got to spend our first week together as Paloceras team in Helsinki a few weeks back. Being currently split between Lisbon and Helsinki, we are trying to prioritize face-to-face time at least once a quarter. I feel it makes such a difference in building relationships when spending time in the same location. One personal highlight for me from our time together (in addition to traditional smoke sauna + cold plunges at Kuusijärvi! 💦) was Workplace Big 5 -personality assessments that we did for the whole team - first individually and then together as a team. Even though I see in our day-to-day how we are different, actually vocalising our differences helps us in building a better and stronger team for the future. It also helps us in identifying if we have specific gaps in our team that we should consider for future hires. What were the main takeways from the assessment? First of all, it was super insightful to get a more in-depth understanding of yourself and see that in many areas we are actually quite similar, such as being prone to novel ideas. In areas where we were different, it gave us a better understanding in not only seeing how we can support each other where the other person could be struggling but also understanding how the other person might behave in a certain situation. I also feel it opened the door for us to have more in-depth conversations about our roles & responsibilities. Where each of us fits the best naturally and what our underlying interests truly are. We are of course lucky to be in the position to mold our roles to best match the needs of the company and personal interests. In any case, I truly think that the best teams are built around utilising people’s strengths and interests as much as possible. Walk And Talk at Fort Canning Park, #Singapore 🇮🇩 This location has been a firm favourite for our Walk & Talk group. It's a magical place with some amazing nature, such as the Heritage Tree pictured here. We're consistently inspired by the grounds which offer a space conducive to deep self-reflection and insight. ✨ One feature is the lighthouse 💡 "The lighthouse, erected in 1903, guided ships entering Singapore's harbour. When a massive island-wide blackout took place on September 19, 1950, Fort Canning Lighthouse served as the only constant source of light for the city." Our Lisbon Hub is celebrating two years! 🎉 The Lisbon Office opened in September 2021 to provide an optimized environment for R&D and attract new talents. Most of the RELEXians in Portugal are part of the global Tech Organization, integrated into different departments and teams. We asked them to share their most memorable and fun experiences from the past two years and hopes for the future. 💙 “Portuguese RELEXians sure know how to have fun times, share laughter, and always have tasty food & drinks. And so, the most enjoyable events are the ones we can be together and celebrate - Summer & Winter parties, Team Volunteering activities, Office Game nights, and random spontaneous get-togethers. “ 💙 “It has been two years full of good things and happy memories! Summer Party 2022 in Finland is one of them. It was undoubtedly a memorable moment, especially as a newbie. It was great because we had the opportunity to share the experience together as newbies and strengthen our relationships with each other, which helped a lot with the involvement and engagement that are evident at the Lisbon Office. Additionally, it was an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues from other countries, both from the direct team and the main stakeholders. These moments always help later in the remote relationship that is often the majority.” 💙 “On one occasion, we stayed late in the office. Our team just wrapped up a fantastic 5-day workcation in Cyprus 🇨🇾 with over 20 of us ☀️🚀 It's become our annual ritual - the previous year in Sicily 🇮🇹 and before that, Prague 🇨🇿. This tradition sparks curiosity. Many fellow founders, leaders, and professionals often ask me: Why do you prioritise this? How do you manage? And what's the cost? → And thought I would share some perspectives and learnings on this During the trip, we work on the strategy, do team building and arrange different workshops & events ⛵️ 💰 We earmark about 1.5% of our total Salary budget for this annual venture. And the rationale behind it? The yearly trips drives significant value by: 👭 Motivation: It cultivates connections, crafting memories that result in inspired, motivated employees with high retention 🚀 Strategic Focus: Gives a great space to discuss and align on the strategic direction and ensure focus on our vision, so we all can have 100% focus on what matters leading to increased performance 🌍 Cultural Enrichment: Such experiences infuse a unique culture & team spirit, clearly shown in how we perform and collaborate across departments. So yes - it is a big investment and prioritisation to make, but the returns in motivation and efficiency are clear! We would much rather have a team of 50 highly motivated individuals, where we can do things like this compared to being 51 😉 We generally dare to do things differently - and also do lots of other things to create the best possible culture for talent, culture & performance to thrive 🔥 We are very happy to share more details on the planning and value of this - if you are interested, so do not hesitate to reach out 📲
