Time for a proper techtimeout with a trip I've been wanting to do for years. New Zealand baby!! From being fully connected to almost wholly disconnected for a few weeks is going to be interesting! It's been a very busy year, so I'm looking forward to some downtime and deep thinking time. Reflection.. Lots of digital projects have been completed at Six Ticks. From new websites and revamps to full-blown digital strategies for global organisations to insane migration projects (if you know, you know!). We've supported over 100 businesses this year with their digital transformations, optimisations and general digital 'stuff'. techtimeout smashed all expectations for techtimeout tuesday this year with businesses representing a staggering almost 1.6 million (MILL-E-ON!!) employees taking part! Some really exciting projects have been kicked off that we're working on to launch next year, including projects to start being more proactive to support our younger generations! Watch this space... Hello Halo Intranet | Powered by Six Ticks Limited has continued to innovate this year, with some incredible new, potentially world-first innovations that will be announced in 2024. My learning and development has also continued after visiting three tech conferences in San Francisco, Dublin and Portugal and being incredibly inspired. I've continued digital nomadism by working seamlessly across 14 countries this year, and I know it 'doesn't work for everyone' but it certainly works for me, my companies and our customers. (I still do some meetings in person where it's necessary or beneficial) My key takeaway is that things take time and to enjoy the journey and not focus wholly on the destination. Thanks to all of our brilliant customers, everyone who has supported techtimeout, my friends, family and our teams for all of the incredible hardwork and support and I can't wait to see you all in 2024. Hello, colleagues!   I want to share with you how amazing it is to go to the office after days of remote work. Going to a space where the work environment is so enriching is a truly gratifying experience. And much of that gratitude is due to the initiatives of our HR team together with the community team, who have created a dynamic and stimulating environment for all of us.   One of the events that really stands out is Reverse Day. What is Reverse Day, you might wonder? It's a unique opportunity to shake up the daily routine and foster creativity and collaboration in unexpected ways. Wearing pajamas in the office, this day allows us to think outside the box and strengthen bonds between teams.   But Reverse Day is just the tip of the iceberg. Our community also organizes a variety of events and activities that bring us together as a team and make us feel part of something bigger. From volunteering sessions, inspiring talks, to epic parties. Each initiative reflects our company's commitment to the well-being of its employees and the spirit of community.   What I value most about these events is how they contribute to a positive and motivating work environment. They give us the opportunity to connect with colleagues from different areas and hierarchical levels, enriching our experiences and perspectives. Furthermore, they remind us that work is not just about fulfilling our responsibilities, but also about enjoying the journey and growing together as a team.   In summary, going to the office is a truly gratifying experience thanks to the positive work environment we have cultivated, and events like Reverse Day are just one example of this. During one of the recent media interviews in France, a journalist asked us “How do you manage such a remote team, spread across Europe?” That’s a great question! We launched in 2020 when it was the Pandemic, and chose not to go back to office after it was over. Instead, we fully embraced the remote culture!  Leading a diverse team of nearly 300 across Amsterdam, London, Cyprus, and Poland at Finom, I love the challenge of bringing everyone together despite our vast geographical spread. Drawing inspiration from the world of sports, I’ve always been fascinated by teamwork in athletics and its parallels with business success. Initially, we aimed to launch a running club but recognized that participation might be limited. To accommodate diverse interests, we broadened our scope to include a sports challenge and called it The Finom Sports Challenge.  This initiative, stemming from my personal affinity for running, has become more than just a fitness group. It's an emblem of our shared journey, mirroring our collective resilience, goals, and the pursuit of excellence. I hope it will flourish and glow in our team.  What makes our challenge special is its voluntary nature, welcoming everyone to join and making it an inclusive, fun part of our work life. It’s not solely about fitness; it symbolizes our unity, fostering strong bonds and shared experiences that transcend physical distances. As Finom continues to grow, I'm confident that such initiatives will be crucial in keeping our team unified, motivated, and prepared to face new challenges and seize opportunities. Consistency in business and sports is crucial for attaining desired outcomes. Regarding consistency, I want to write more about this in the future. What if we shifted our focus from just integrating international talent into Finnish culture to empowering them to retain and share their own cultural identities? 🤔 This thought crossed my mind today during an insightful event organized by Finders Seekers and Nordea, where we explored research on international tech talent in Finland. I was happy to see Smartly rising in the list of top 10 interesting employers for international tech talent 🎉 The panel discussion with experts like Niilo Säämänen (CTO, Wolt), Melanie Dower (International Employees & Family Support Lead, Supercell), and Tarun Sharma (Partner & COO, Nokia Ventures) sparked some deep reflections on how we can build a more inclusive tech community. While Finland offers incredible work-life balance, education, and safety, we often talk about integrating talent into Finnish culture—but what about letting them bring their culture into ours? When you look at cities like Berlin, Copenhagen, or Amsterdam, they attract international talent not just because they’re welcoming, but because they’re international hubs where multiple cultures coexist and thrive 🌍 At the end of the panel, I asked how employers can support this. The responses were thought-provoking: from building stronger local international communities to using food to bring people together (always a crowd pleaser) and building multicultural ERGs to raise awareness. These are great starts—but how can we go further? How do we, as employers, ensure that people don’t feel they have to leave behind their cultural identity when they come to work in Finland? I truly believe that by empowering international talent to bring their culture into our workplaces, we can create an even richer, more diverse environment—one that helps make Helsinki not just a great place to live, but a truly international hub for tech talent. So my question to you is: How can we, as employers, better support international talent in retaining and celebrating their cultural identities? Did you know that Wemoter was born from a conversation over dinner with a friend? 💬 🍱 Two years ago, while eating sushi with my friend, we talked about the world of remote staffing, about how interesting this field is, and the value of connecting high-quality talent with great companies in need. We thought about how companies can access incredible professionals who are not easy to find and, moreover, at a much lower cost than in the USA. At the same time, Argentine professionals can receive competitive salaries, and we, as intermediaries, also benefit. Everyone wins, a win-win relationship. 🏅 That conversation got me thinking. The next day, I woke up with a mix of excitement, fear, and curiosity. What if it could really work? I started researching and studying it, and the idea of Wemoter began to take shape little by little. 🤯 Finding the perfect name was an adventure. We even thought of some funny fruit names, but realized we needed something that better reflected our vision. We focused on the concept of "remoter," meaning "people who work from anywhere in the world," and at the same time, we wanted to emphasize the importance of being a connector, linking great companies with top Argentine professionals. 🙌🏻 That's when "Wemoter" was born as a combination of "we" + "remote." - "We" represents "us", teamwork, and mutual support. - "Remote" signifies remote work, talents working from anywhere in the world. The connection of these talents with great opportunities.
