A truly monumental milestone and a proud moment for each team member working really hard to bring NEOM to life – Sindalah Island, the gateway to the Red Sea and the world’s new global yachting destination, is now open. Just two years ago, in 2022, Sindalah was first announced by His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Chairman of the NEOM Board of Directors. At that time, it was merely a vision—a pristine, untouched island with nothing but a concept on paper. Sindalah offers a year-round experience with unmatched luxury above and below water. Home to five luxury properties by world-renowned yacht designer Luca Dini, it also features 38 unique culinary venues led by Michelin-starred chefs, a luxury retail promenade of over 100 global brands, a stunning golf course, and a state-of-the-art marina for the world’s most discerning yacht owners. Yet nature is Sindalah’s true jewel, with pristine coastline and crystal-clear waters, over 1,100 fish species (45 unique to NEOM), and 300 coral species. Aligned with NEOM’s commitment to sustainability, Sindalah operates as a net zero emission, net liquid discharge destination, with zero waste sent to landfills. This milestone is more than an achievement—it’s a vision brought to life. #Sindalah #NEOM #Vision2030

Sindalah Island, the first destination of Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion NEOM project. The yachting industry has seen some exciting developments lately, from Airport City Marina in Hong Kong to Superyacht Base Kobe Marina in Japan and Ocean Village in Gibraltar. But to me, Sindalah Island in Saudi Arabia still stands out. Launched in October 2024, Sindalah is the first destination to debut under Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion NEOM project. Named the "gateway between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean," this 84-hectare island will play a crucial role in the region's mission to establish itself on the global yachting calendar. Key features include an 86-berth marina for yachts up to 75 meters, offshore mooring for superyachts up to 180 meters, and the Sindalah Yacht Club, designed by Stefano Ricci. For accommodations, visitors can choose from luxury options such as Four Seasons, The Luxury Collection, and Saudi Arabia's first Autograph Collection Resort. Beyond yachting and lodging, Sindalah offers a culinary and retail hub with 38 restaurants and 51 luxury boutiques, an 18-hole golf course, and other world-class leisure facilities. Sindalah’s launch, along with the progress of other developments within the NEOM project, has already driven demand in the region. As a result, the Saudi Red Sea Authority issued the first yacht chartering licenses in early December to Hill Robinson Saudi, Faisal M. Higgi & Associates Co. Ltd., and JLS Yachts LLC. What do you think about the developments taking place in Saudi Arabia? [From the June 2024 edition of The Maritime Observer's newletter. Link in bio, or comment "send" to recieve a copy directly.] "It was in 1869 when the 145.75-meter Egyptian yacht El Mahrousa became the first ship to pass the Suez Canal, the waterway connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. 150 years later in 2015, the same presidential yacht inaugurated the new Suez Canal extension, an upgrade that dramatically improved the transit of luxury vessels by offering two-way travel from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Now, with Egypt becoming an emerging superyacht destination of its own, the Suez Canal is no longer just a transit route, it is now a gateway inviting superyachts to extend their peregrinations into Egypt's offerings. The Red Sea, long inaccessible to superyachts, started to welcome the idea of superyacht tourism in the last five years. In Saudi Arabia, with the city of Jeddah launching its yacht club and marina, the government launching the Saudi Arabia Red Sea Authority to regulate coastal tourism, and the investment in luxury resorts and megaprojects NEOM, The Red Sea Project and Amaala, Saudi Arabia is transforming the country into becoming the ne plus ultra of luxury cruising. On the other side of the Red Sea, however, Egypt is going all in on establishing a yachting hub of its own by utilizing its unique history, and strategic location, while modernizing regulation and investing in infrastructure to appeal to the international yachting community."
