Overland Expedition Across The Middle East | Saudi Arabia | Part 2 Exploring NEOM and the northwestern region of Saudi Arabia. Major construction taking place on The Line and the other inteconnected regions across NEOM. This transforms the economic, infrastructural, and strategic landscape in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Very interesting to be on the ground here in the northern region of Saudi Arabia. Keep in mind that NEOM is built across vast desert, mountain, and marine landscapes. This requires highly sophisticated architectural, engineering, urban, marine, design, environmental, supply chain, logistics, and financial planning. I conducted a wide range of conversations already with people working on different projects in NEOM, and gaining a deeper understanding of the ongoing construction work, supply chain operations, logistics streams, and the wide-ranging economic, cultural, and societal implications of NEOM. When reflecting on NEOM from a strategic nation-building perspective - I am impressed by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and the Saudi leadership´s foresightful conviction and strategic decision to invest a major part of the Public Investment Fund´s financial resources in building Saudi Arabia. This shows Saudi Arabia´s pioneering leadership in strategic nation-building. Many countries should pay attention and learn. While many countries do not have the financial resources that Saudi Arabia has - many countries can learn from the dedication, conviction, and razor-sharp focus the Saudi leadership shows by investing heavily across industries, sectors, and regions in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia Scales Back Ambitious Neom Megacity Project Vision 2030 and Neom: Neom was envisioned as a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, a plan to diversify the country's economy and reduce its dependence on oil. The megacity was designed to be a 170km futuristic city with a population of 1.5 million by 2030. Challenges and Downsizing: Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which is financing the project, has dwindling cash reserves. As a result, the project has been significantly downsized. Revised Scope: Due to budget constraints, only a 2.4km segment of Neom is expected to be built by 2030. This significantly reduced scale means that the projected population for Neom in 2030 is now only 300,000, a far cry from the original 1.5 million. It will be interesting to see how Neom develops in the coming years.
