📢 Job Alert | PRIORITY HABITAT & SPECIES NEARSHORE BIOLOGIST 🌊 📢 WDFW's Priority Habitats and Species Section is making a splash with all these incredible new positions! In my opinion, this section is one of the least known, yet most effective programs for directly influencing conservation in Washington State. This is an incredible new position that is looking for someone to: 🌊Lead nearshore habitat mapping and planning, 🌊Develop spatial data that can help land use planners and land managers identify and protect nearshore habitats, 🌊Create guidance that will provide practical strategies for protecting and enhancing nearshore habitats, 🌊Help develop practical applications for nearshore conservation through land use planning in both urban and rural settings. With coastal hazards such as flooding and erosion related to sea level rise threatening nearshore habitats across the state, the criticality of this work cannot be overstated. This position is essential for rapidly increasing the state’s capacity to prepare for and mitigate these coastal hazards. You Supported the Research Team! ✨ A key goal of community-based conservation is ensuring that local residents benefit, and one way to achieve this is by providing jobs. Your support made it possible to hire local residents to assist with field research. Last spring, the team set up 50 motion-activated camera traps throughout the reserve. Half of these devices were placed high in the tree canopy, while the other half were installed in dense undergrowth. Conducting research in the swamp forest is challenging due to the lack of firm ground. The climbing skills of ABC trackers and guards, along with their intimate knowledge of the reserve's terrain, were crucial for successfully installing the camera traps in the forest. After several months, the camera traps were retrieved, and over 2,000 videos were analyzed. The footage revealed a total of 17 identifiable mammal species! #Bonobos #WildlifeResearch #Conservation #EndangeredSpecies #ForestBiodiversity

Alongside conducting assessments of potential sites prior to commencing works, an ecologist plays a vital role in supervising site investigations. Our Young Ranger Camp- this workshop covers seasonal wildlife biologist, that helps students to cover the field tools, documentation, photography & camera trapping in which students explores the theory of wildlife biology, flora and fauna identification. Main objective of conducting this program is to integrate ecological knowledge & skill education which raises awareness about nature conservation among young students so they can infuse ecological approach into their daily life. #youngrangercamps #impact_edutech_into_the_wild

I've been married to a wildlife biologist for 23 years. And I've been working with and reading the work of ornithologists, herpetologists, and ecologists for even longer. This project was an absolute dream! In my work there are two completely separate tasks I perform that use two very different parts of my brain. When I copyedit I look for cues, find patterns, search for things that stand out, identify errors and look for disruptions in phrasing. At work, I also read to learn, understand, and absorb new topics. These are two very different tasks. Honestly, I can't perform them at the same time. I may not be part of the intended audience, but I will happily admit that I read this book twice so I could immerse myself in both tasks independently. This book is structured and geared toward researchers in animal behavior. It is an invaluable resource for people in this field of study! The new discoveries researchers have made in the last 30 years are incredible--while tool behavior is still most prominent in apes, it has been extended to birds, insects, and even fish.
