In this MEDtalk, Lina Moschoula Passali focuses on blood-brain barrier permeability in patients with optic neuritis, a common early symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS). The study, presented at ECTRIMS 2024, showed that blood-brain barrier permeability in the normally occurring white matter is increased in patients who already meet MS diagnostic criteria, but not before. Mikkel Anthonisen, MD, specialist in MS and founder of the sailing project Oceans of Hope for patients with MS presented the first results from the project at this year’s ECTRIMS. They show that the sailing activities reduce the patients’ anxiety and depression. Denne undersøgelse undersøgte effekten af et fire-ugers tværfagligt rehabiliteringsprogram af fatigue hos personer med MS. Patienter, der deltog i programmet, rapporterede om reduceret fatigue 6 og 12 måneder efter rehabiliteringen. De, der modtog mere målrettede interventioner mod fatigue, oplevede endnu større forbedringer. Resultaterne tyder på, at programmet positivt påvirker dagligdagen og livskvaliteten. At ECTRIMS 2024, Melinda Magyari presented a study that analyzed mortality trends in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in Denmark using Danish Multiple Sclerosis Registry data.
