TO ADDRESS THE EDUCATION CHALLENGES IN AFRICA, LET US PUT EMPHASIS ON 1. Policy and Governance: Governments should ensure better coordination between education policy, planning, and implementation. Prudent mechanisms must be established for accountability, transparency, and community involvement in the management of schools. African education systems should prepare students to be globally competitive while maintaining local and cultural relevance. International partnerships and exchanges should play their role in enhancing the quality of African education. These solutions are essential for understanding and transforming African education systems to meet future challenge. Rethinking African Education by Mozisha Do you know what the future holds for Education in Africa? If you are an African you might have an idea of our current realities as a learner or as an educator. How frustrating has it been for you? According to UNESCO, Africa needs at least 9 million new classrooms and 9.5 million more teachers by 2050 to meet the needs of school-age children and adolescents. This doesn't address the growing demand for higher education. But that is not the only problem. Through our recent blog post, we use Woolman's work to analyze how many African countries have prioritized national development, Africanisation, national unity, and economic growth through education policies. Education is this year's theme for the African Union. “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa” The African Union (AU) was established in 2002, "to promote unity and solidarity of African states, to spur economic development, and to promote international cooperation," replacing the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which was founded in 1963. #agenda2063 #africanunion #education #SDG4

On the 25th of May each year, the world observes Africa Day, a day intended to celebrate the richness and vibrancy of Africa. It is commemorated to mark the formation of the Organisation of African Unity, the OAU, which was formed on the 25th May 1963. It later became the African Union we know today, in July 2002. The African Union has marked 2024 as the year of Education. The day's theme follows this overarching theme and aims to see an Africa that is; “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa”.

Happy #AfricaDay We are celebrating Africa Day today under the theme Education Fit for the 21st Century. Together, we can build an education system that not only meets the needs of the twenty-first century, but also ensures that every African child has the opportunity to succeed. Education is not only the foundation for individual success, but also for the continent's long-term development and prosperity.
