Scepticism is one of the true blockers of innovation and progress.
When bringing new tech to an industry, one of the quick routes to market is to partner with existing players in the sector to utilise their existing sales network, so inevitably at PurEmissions we speak to a lot of companies supplying traditional emissions control solutions like wet scrubbers and SCRs into maritime. Whenever I present PurEmissions to these guys, I always get 1 of 2 reactions, either they are impressed and see the potential and want to hear more, or they try very hard to pick holes in our technology in order to debunk what we have and prove to themselves that we are a bunch of idiots and not a threat to their business. Even when I show them we have over 100 working applications all over the world, and numerous case studies proving it works, some people just don't want to be convinced. These are basically burying their head in the sand and hoping we go away and disappear because we are challenging their existing business.
This scenario played out again last week at Posidonia in Athens, where I was showcasing our next-gen All-in-1 emissions control and carbon capture technology to the shipping industry. We picked up some great new opportunities which are keeping us very busy following up, but I also received a few of the usual sceptical comments including the immortal 'it sounds too good to be true' and 'I've been doing this for 40 years and I've never heard of a technology that can do this.' Scepticism abounds in every industry, and this is one of the true blockers of innovation and progress. Anyone heard any other gems?
