NERC: Natural Environment Research Council’s Post

In Nairobi, project representatives from the UKRI-NERC Equitable nature-based climate resilience in SSA (NbS in SSA) programme joined practitioners, researchers and representatives of indigenous peoples' organisations from other UK Government environment and climate research programmes for the first International Environment and Climate Research Symposium.   The event was split into two days, on the first day our NbS in SSA projects came together for the programme kick-off event to find common ground in their methods, landscapes, and regions. This will help our grant holders share experiences and learn from each other, boosting the impact of their projects. The event also featured discussions on community involvement, with workshops on stakeholder mapping and creating practical knowledge products to enhance the projects’ outcomes.   The second day brought all three programmes together to exchange practical ideas, concrete solutions and lived experiences to turn research and knowledge into impact. We also discussed ways to keep learning from each other and explored opportunities for knowledge sharing.   Check out our video about the event ⬇️

This year’s NERC showcase will bring together many different organisations that can share their work with the public and give everyone a chance to get involved! Held at Techniquest in Cardiff, we are partnering with NOC to encourage the public to #ExploreOurPlanet. We have an incredible list of exhibitors to let people get hands on with science, and the RRS James Cook will be welcoming visitors on board. The event and activities aim to bring the world of environmental science to the public with a weekend of fun, facts and interactive exhibits. Public engagement isn’t just about stands and posters, it’s about bringing research to the people, getting hands on and embracing the curiosity.
