#Healthcare professionals, help to optimise your surgery and trauma patients’ recovery. IMPACT® products have been clinically proven to reduce infectious complications by 50%, shorten the length of hospital stay by 2-5 days, and reduce readmissions by 50%. Each IMPACT® drink includes Arginine, an amino acid which supports the immune system and helps to increase blood flow to the surgical wound site, supporting the healing process. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil helps to lessen the stress on the body from surgery by managing inflammation. Meanwhile, dietary nucleotides are molecules that play an important role in rebuilding cells that help fight off infection. The chicken with a cap, kept cramping her! A 6 year old child came with severe abdominal cramp, bloody diarrhea. Amebiasis was diagnosed, Metronidazole commenced but the symptoms didn’t improve. Diagnostic colonoscopy performed which show’s Rectal Multiple white specks (colonic chicken skin mucosa) and eaily bleeding single rectal polyp, cold snare polypoctomy done and Biopsy showed rectal inflammatory cap polyp with lipid-laden macrophages in the lamina propria of the mucosa. Metronidazole is one of the treatment options for inflammatory cap polyp, in our case considering a single polyp Endoscopic mucosal resection leads to symptomatic improvement. Key message 1: Colonic chicken skin mucosa(CSM) could be an independent Endoscopic Predictor of Colorectal Adenoma, luckily our patient biopsy didn’t show adenoma. Key message 2: Inflammatory cap polyps are rare and Poorly Understood Form of Colonic Polyps. Usually the left side colon is affected, there are different treatment modalities: EMR, methrondiazole, H. pylori eradication therapy, steroid or inflixibam. NB: The histologies feature of Colonic chicken skin mucosa(CSM) may mimics whipple's. What Does Protein Have to do with Cancer Survivors Undergoing Treatment? While cancer patients undergoing treatment or surgery, they need to increase their protein intake. They need at least 1.2g of protein per kg of body weight, sometimes even higher based on weight, height and other treatments modalities. Enough protein leads to support the repair of damaged cells caused by the treatment or surgery, recovery, fighting infections and preventing muscle loss. Please note: The way you eat will not speed or slow the metabolic agenda, and there is no known way to change the growth of cancer with diet. Your treatment will kill off the cancer cells in your body, but proper nutrition will help support, decreased weight loss, decreased muscle loss, improved confidence in food choices. A case of mid-GI bleeding reveals the complexity of diagnosing and treating intra-abdominal benign tumors. Despite their benign nature, cavernous lymphangiomas can mimic neuroendocrine tumors, complicating the diagnostic process. This emphasizes the need for a high index of suspicion and knowledge of rare entities in gastrointestinal medicine. https://lnkd.in/eRFqiBWN

This is why we need to chew our food well. I remember when I worked as a teacher, I used to eat very fast, no more! If you eat fast, Slow down! Chewing well can help you digest better, eat less, and avoid getting food stuck. Great teaching view of the food impacted in the esophagus. If this happens often to you, seek medical advice. Enjoy your meal, and take care of your health! Best, Jen #md #mbbs #food #ecfmg #eating #gi #dismotility #doctor #medicine #eating

His esophagus refused to meet the meat: the steak stick in the house!! A 37-year-old male presented with a three-day history of retrosternal pain and dysphagia. The onset of symptoms occurred following the consumption of a meat dish during dinner. He experienced several episodes of vomiting, and the retrosternal pain intensified. Emergency medical teams excluded cardiac causes for the pain. An emergency the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy identified an inadequately chewed piece of steak obstructing the lower esophagus, which was carefully pushed into the stomach. After the removal of the impaction, mild erosion of the lower esophageal mucosa was observed, but the esophageal biopsy did not indicate any underlying pathology. The patient was safely discharged with a prescription for proton pump inhibitors. Key message: Esophageal food impaction, commonly referred to as “steakhouse syndrome,” occurs when food is ingested too quickly and becomes lodged in the esophagus. This condition can arise from various causes, including mechanical narrowing of the esophagus due to carcinoma, diverticulum, hiatal hernia, or eosinophilic esophagitis, as well as motility disorders such as achalasia, diffuse esophageal spasm, and esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction. It is important to note that this condition may be mistaken for acute coronary syndrome, as patients often report pain behind the sternum. #Diabetes is a risk factor for #HeartFailure (HF). With hundreds of millions of diabetes patients worldwide, identifying and selecting for preventive treatment those at risk of HF is critical. This paper studies the use of a two step #screening approach for that purpose. First a step using a risk scoring system (WATCH-DM) followed by #NTproBNP testing for those scoring higher. This cost-efficient method identified up to almost 90% of those at risk and who could benefit for primary prevention with SGLT2 inhibitors therapy. https://lnkd.in/d8YxcneP #biomarkers #laboratorymedicine #IVD #endocrinology #cardiology
