An EDF supported project to investigate establishing a green corridor between Ireland and the UK has won Government backing. The Green Corridor initiative, spearheaded by ferry operators Irish Ferries and Stena Line with support from EDF’s R&D team, environmental consultancy Ricardo plc, Dublin Port, Holyhead Port Authority, and Maynooth University, aims to explore the feasibility of greening the shipping route between Holyhead Port in Wales and Dublin Port. Experts from our R&D team will support work to scope the project’s fuel supply chain and the explore opportunities to source those fuels locally to the ports. The Holyhead to Dublin trade route is one of the busiest between the UK and Ireland, accounting for 74% of all ferry passenger movements between the two countries in 2022. This funding will help to advance the decarbonisation of this critical trade route. Read more: https://ow.ly/pKJx50TPOGV

The first Great South West Annual Conference isn’t the start of the road to a single, powerful voice for the region, but hopefully it’s a big step further forwards. The MPs (and minister) here have been told in no uncertain terms that we need them, and all of Westminster, to stop thinking about the South West as a tourist destination and instead recognise its strengths in renewable energy, defence, manufacturing, mineral extraction, agriculture and agritech etc etc. My thought, most of the way through the day, is that the South West can (and already does!) give more back to the rest of the UK than is put in. If #backthegreatsouthwest can help with the messaging, shouldn’t the pithy message be that with enabling investment the South West can help to solve the uk’s economic challenges by providing innovation, energy and a growing trade surplus?

The June Edition of Port Esbjerg’s News Brief has landed 🌊 In this News Brief, you can take a deep dive into the highlights from the Annual Meeting at Port Esbjerg in late May. Under the concept of ‘Ask Us Anything’, the Advisory Board of the port was put in the hot chair for the attendants. Read more about how that went as well as the status of the port as seen from chairman Søren Gade and mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen. You can also read more about the visit from the Danish minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities, Lars Aagaard, who deems Port Esbjerg as a key player in the green transition with an even greater role in the future. At the same time, political action is needed at the European level, to speed up the actual transition. Besides that, a new charging station for electric trucks established by Norlys are spreading joy at Port Esbjerg. This is a step in the right direction towards becoming a climate neutral municipality in 2030 and of great importance to international actors like DSV - Global Transport and Logistics and DFDS 🔌 Lastly, you can read more about the current status at the port as seen by Dennis Jul Pedersen, CEO of Port Esbjerg. The satisfaction is high, but we still need to plan further into the future to a much greater extent, so we can continue our development. Key decision-makers from the Australian Government, industry representatives, and international stakeholders came together last week at the 4th Maritime Decarbonisation Summit to tackle pressing issues and explore innovative solutions towards decarbonisation in the sector. Held in Queensland for the first time, the conference fostered an environment for knowledge-sharing, networking, and discussing progress within the maritime industry. Queensland is leading the way towards net zero by 2050 as the state that has contributed the most to Australia’s emission reductions since 2005. Through continuous collaboration at events like these, we will be able to work together to create a sustainable maritime future, while ensuring the industry grows from strength to strength.
