Say hello to our English and Welsh net zero glossary 💻⚡
We realised there were plenty of well-used terms in the net zero space that didn’t have easily accessible Welsh and English language equivalents — so we’ve worked with Afallen to develop an A to Z directory for our website where you can look them up.
We hope this brand-new resource will help Welsh speakers and learners alike to navigate their journeys to net zero, yn y Gymraeg 💡
Mwynhewch!

Last week, our focus was on Climate Change Awareness at the Gifted English Project, and we engaged our students in a series of impactful activities:
Climate Change Awareness Campaign:
Our students created posters, slogans, and social media posts to spread awareness about the causes, effects, and solutions to climate change. 🌍
Environmental Health Workshops:
We held interactive sessions on air, water, and land pollution, waste management, and eco-friendly practices, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental health. 🌱💧
Eco-Poetry and Storytelling:
Through poetry and storytelling, our students expressed their thoughts and emotions about climate change, showcasing their creativity and concern for the planet. ✍️📚
Sustainable Practices Fair:
Innovative ideas for reducing, reusing, and recycling waste were on full display as our students took the lead in promoting sustainable living. ♻️✨
Climate Change Debate:
Our students honed their critical thinking and public speaking skills by engaging in respectful debates on climate change topics, encouraging thoughtful discourse. 🗣️⚖️
Eco-Art Exhibition:
Artwork created from recycled materials was showcased, highlighting environmental themes and the importance of sustainability. 🎨🌿
Outcomes:
* Increased knowledge and understanding of climate change and environmental health.
* Enhanced critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
* Cultivated empathy and responsibility towards the environment.
* Strengthened community and collaboration among students.

🌎 Celebrating World Environment Day 🌱
I'm excited to combine my love for language with raising awareness about environmental conservation on this #WorldEnvironmentDay!
This year's theme "Solutions to Plastic Pollution" is a powerful reminder to ditch single-use plastics and embrace eco-friendly alternatives. It's time to reduce our plastic footprint on this planet we call home.
On this day, I encourage all my students to explore nature-inspired English vocabulary. Words like
"biodiversity,"
"ecosystem,"
"carbon footprint"
help us better articulate environmental issues.
Let's also discover beautiful idioms and expressions that capture the wonders of our natural world:
"A breath of fresh air"
"Every cloud has a silver lining"
"Greener pastures"
Try using these words & phrases in discussions, writing activities, and more. By mastering this language, we empower ourselves as vocal advocates for sustainability.
Join me in celebrating our planet's splendor through the poetic lens of the English language. Let's work together to create a greener, cleaner world - one eco-friendly phrase at a time!
Share your favorite nature words using #WorldEnvironmentDay. I can't wait to see your linguistic odes for Mother Earth!

Why isn’t Erasmus+ carbon neutral?
Is it possible that the carbon emissions associated with Erasmus mobility would be higher than those of Formula 1? How does Erasmus+, the EU's iconic initiative for young people in Europe, perform in meeting the target of a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030?
🌍 How can the benefits of Erasmus+ be sustained for the next generation of students, while meeting their values and not aggravating environmental challenges?

Friday is always a slower day at Meaningful English HQ (aka my spare room😂).
I have fewer classes, which affords me the time to lesson plan, create social media posts, write email newsletters, tackle admin tasks, and catch up on articles, videos and podcasts that I've bookmarked throughout the week.
A regular highlight of my Fridays is reading the 'What Went Right This Week' feature in Positive News: https://lnkd.in/dF5Y5AY8
We're living through turbulent times, and staying upbeat can be difficult when keeping up with the mainstream news, especially if you're a highly sensitive empath.
That's why I always look forward to these few minutes of positivity on a Friday—it helps to start the weekend with a spring in my step.
What do you do on Fridays to start the weekend on a positive note?
Glossary:
🔸to afford = to provide something or allow something to happen
🔸turbulent = involving a lot of sudden changes, arguments, or violence
🔸upbeat = full of hope and happiness
🔸mainstream = relating to the most frequent or usual way of doing or thinking about something
🔸an empath = a person who has a strong ability to feel other people's emotional or mental states
🔸with a spring in one's step = feeling happy and confident

I participated in an international stakeholder workshop on 'Climate Change and Green Economy Jobs" in April 2024 and presented on "The Integration of Climate Change and Green Economy Issues into the National Curriculum in Ghana.
A key benefit of integrating climate change into the national curriculum is to prepare learners' for a sustainable future. By integrating climate change and green economy into the curriculum, learners are better equipped to navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing world and contribute to a more sustainable future.
I gained a holistic understanding of climate change and green jobs. The workshop provided a comprehensive insight on climate change and green jobs, covering topics such as the impact of climate change on employment, the creation of new jobs in environmentally friendly sectors and the need for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies.
