Data series PART 1 - Traditional build - Baseline data! In order to understand how we can reduce our carbon impact, we needed to measure against something, so where did we start? We've focused on a school project built in what we considered to be ‘traditional construction’, and then compared it against the predicted embodied carbon that could have been achieved if pre-fabricated, LGSF panels or timber panels were used during construction. In this data set shown, we can see the breakdown of the embodied carbon impact of a 'traditional build' but it's important to understand that assumptions have been made. As the study focused on the embodied carbon impact of the use of various 2d panelised systems as opposed to traditional build, only the building elements impacted by the change in approach were altered. All other elements (foundations, concrete floors, MEP, fenestration, rainscreens, bricks etc.) would have the same impact whether a traditional, timber panelised, or light streel panels approach were used, therefore we have not measured the impact and embodied carbon contribution in this study, as they are equal in all cases. The assessment further broke down the embodied carbon contribution across the project lifecycle stages in accordance with the EN 15978:2011 standard, the boundary of the assessment including stages [A1] to [A4]. Part 2 in the series looks at the data breakdown within the timber closed panel system! Follow our page as we share insights into this report over a series of posts. You could be quite surprised by the results... To request a copy of the full report please contact hello@netzerobuildings.co.uk #Decarbonisation #EmbodiedCarbon #OffsiteConstruction
