CTSP | M.IPSA Delivering Integrated Security & Data Projects using over 40 years of experience in the Security Industry
*The Power of Quality Craftsmanship: How Training and a Willingness to Learn Transform Careers and Businesses* This photo showcases a completed project by a Senior Security Systems Technician—a man who, around 9 years ago, was delivering cars. Through his work ethic , I saw potential in him, and I offered him an opportunity to join the business that I owned at the time, as a trainee. From the start, I emphasised one key message: *“Learning is a process. Aquring skills takes time. Be patient, stay open to learning, and experience and an increase of income will follow.”* He embraced this advice. Through dedication, discipline, and a hunger for knowledge, he learned from those around him, pursued manufacturer training courses, and remained patient through the ups and downs. His commitment to learning has given him a rewarding work-life balance—something that benefits both him and his family. He will, without doubt, eventually rise through the ranks of management and beyond. Today, his career is thriving. Not only has he secured a fantastic position within the Security Systems industry, but he’s also seen personal and financial growth. He is now passing on his knowlegde and skill set to apprentices who he is managing. If they take on board what he is showing them, they to will progress, if they want to that is! This story is a reminder: continuous learning is essential. Whether it’s discovering what NOT to do or finding ways to improve, growth is constant. When employees at every level—from trainees to managers and directors—embrace a mindset of learning and growth, the results are transformative. This, in my opinion, leads to stronger businesses, happier clients, and more fulfilled employees. 😀 (This project is a new Residential New Build project consisting of 48 Apartments with video intercom handsets, 5 Video Intercom Entrance panels, 1 lift with lift control and 16 Access Controlled Doors. Have you ever felt lost on your first day at a new job? Today, as I set foot on the construction site as a trainee in site execution after an intensive two-week training, I felt overwhelmed. Everyone was deeply engrossed in their tasks, and things were not as I had imagined. Anyone could barely afford time for teaching why and how things should be done. I understood my presence or absence doesn't really matter in the project. This was my first realisation in my transition from a college student to corporate employee. In college, the focus is on the benefit of the students, whereas in the corporate world, the focus is on the benefit of the organization. I realized it was my duty to learn rather than expect anyone to teach me. To gain knowledge, I needed to earn respect, build connections, and show humility. I used to think that working 12 hours a day would be stressful, but taking responsibility and seeing the work gradually come together on a large scale brings immense satisfaction. Ups or downs, I enjoy my job with one key perception in mind: "Aim for the big fish, not the small ones." Have you experienced a similar transition? How did you handle it?

ON NCCER POST ON TRADE TRAINING -- There are two things for effective return on Training both to the employee as also to the Employer. The best way is to engage a master craftsman to train the workmen ' ON THE JOB' Trainee starting as an observer for a day, then as an assistant or helper of a Skilled tradesmen for three days --and then over the next three weeks graduating to a Sem- skilled and then and by four weeks to a fully skilled workmen. There would be disbelief in this time frame, but if carefully guided it is possible. Sharing a graph of Skill rating vs Productivity for s Form work trades man. This clearly shows that, the productivity beyond a point starts becoming flat and so the Investment on Training beyond this tresh hold gives lower returns tom both the Employee and the Employer --and so should not be resorted to. How do you motivate and inspire a trainee unless they are beside you in the office? How does the trainee absorb by osmosis the way you are addressing situations, learn kind and acceptable ways of saying what might otherwise be a difficult truth? How do you measure their progress or spot the gaps in their learning if you cannot hear and observe them working? It is natural to want to work to a high standard. Tension releases as we grow in competence, stop feeling so ‘new’. Smiles, approval and praise supports and encourages a trainee. Problems arising can be handled immediately, not allowed to fester. Comradeship and loyalty grow toward your likeminded colleagues as you are accepted into the Team. Formal training plays a part, but the subtle absorption of overheard best practice accelerates learning and avoids spawning meetings. All the above are major factors in attracting and retaining staff of all age groups. So why wouldn’t you choose to work alongside your team in the office? #backintheoffice #imitationgame

I think this is a fact most of the time those who have the ability to learn quickly also have the ability to work on most things as long as they are in their interest, but even those who have the knowledge and know how to teach often do not have the opportunity to highlight it, I think that in the coming years we will face a new type of employment and inspections and I think it will be based on the same person's ability to find solutions and creativity more than knowing the tools.

My experience as a graduate trainee has developed into an inspiring story of development. The incredible opportunity to deep dive into both technical and non-technical realms, sets this experience apart. It's been a comprehensive exploration of fundamental machine operator training , accounting knowledge, aftermarket services, and now sales. Every section has served as a springboard for gaining a comprehensive grasp of the business. The most exciting part of the exposure is beyond just gaining knowledge but more to do with expanding horizons, fostering teamwork, and encouraging a cross-functional mentality. The diverse exposure already sets a cornerstone of my professional development as I journey into the second year of the development program. I appreciate the opportunity to grow beyond my skills. Here’s to embracing challenges, discovering potentials and making every step count while I strive to having a fulfilling & impactful career. #1yearanniversary #careerdevelopment #professionalgrowth #graduatetrainee
