The phrase "HR is not your friend" has been trending since 2022. Which I find interesting from a historical perspective. HR started in the early 1900s in response to employee outrage over working conditions. It was essentially there to make changes to the conditions to improve morale. Between the 1960s and 80s, with the rise of Neoliberalism and other cultural forces, the transition went from "personnel" to seeing people as "resources." HR departments were effectively rule enforcers who saw humans as raw resources for production. That purpose has more or less stayed the same since then but we do appear to be in a transition. Companies are increasingly rebranding HR to softer names like "People & Culture" or "People Operations"…but they too infrequently are changing the mandate of the department to match the name. "HR is not your friend" is trending because at the end of the day, "HR must defend the company before the employee" as an HR executive once told me. As someone who has worked in HR since 2017, I'm excited to push companies to not just change the name, but radically redefine its mandate so it protects employees, not just the company. #hr #people #culture

Do you believe #hr is critical to a company’s success? You should! Did you know that over the past three years, #hrprofessionals have generated the highest turnover rate across all industries??? According to findings from a Gusto survey, 70% of HR employees say complying with #employmentlaws has grown notably more difficult as companies hire more and more workers from other states — and 30% of them say the level of difficulty has increased “substantially." Did you know you can substantially reduce #companyturnover, but specifically HR turnover simply by providing them with #myHRcounsel? #employers #employeeretention #saveyourbottomline #myhrcounsel
